I have always assumed the beach was named after a nearby weir.
Several years ago, I went to urgent care and wound up needing a cortisone shot. The doctor’s last name was Hu. While waiting for him to prepare the injection, I posted something on Facebook like “At urgent care, being treated by Dr. Hu. The exam room is bigger on the inside.”
No one got it. 
It’s not on the ocean. It’s on lake Winnipesaukee.
And yeah, fishing weirs.
Huh, I guess I better turn in my NH card! It’s been decades since I lived there. Clearly I have forgotten some significant information about the state.
