I’ll shamelessly plug one of our local communities here- after a year off, the Potterville, MI Gizzard Festival should be back in business in 2018. If you love your gizzards, it’s the place to be. But any time, you can stop in Joe’s Gizzard City restaurant in town.
My mom would always order them, I decided to get some and try them a few years ago. Surprisingly good.
You all can have my share. Yuck!
My wife gets Chinese marinated gizzards as a snack sometimes. They’re not bad, but they’re a bit chewy for my taste. I’d rather stick with spicy jingwu duck neck.
Chewy, you say?
I’ve eaten them (as well as hearts and livers) all my life and I love them. Especially chopped chicken liver. The gizzards, it the chicken or turkey comes with them, we cook into a broth and then I eat them. Same with the heart and neck. The liver we fry and mash with a bit of mayo and a couple hard boiled eggs.
Chickens believe that in consuming their best friends, their best friends will live on inside them. Their souls will merge.
It’s a sweet, poignant chicken tradition.
And besides, their best friends taste like chicken.
And what is Beckdawrek, chopped liver? :dubious:
