OK, not “just” - it was this past weekend, but I’m just recovered now ![]()
Here’s the story: it was a fundraiser for my theatre company. I collected sponsorships, kinda like a Walk for Hunger or something, only it was by the hour instead of by the mile. We had a big kickoff party, where people could request songs, play in the band, and duel me on guitar. That was for about 5 hours, then I kept playing (mostly alone) for the next 19 hours. The entire thing was streamed live online so people could watch, make sure I finished, and send encouragement (and man, did I need it!).
We set up a stage and projected the game screen behind the band so the audience could see what we were playing, and we had two monitors in front for the band to watch. I played all instruments, switching around as the mood moved me. Since I had mic stands, I also was able to sing and play guitar simultaneously, which was new to me, and quite enjoyable (when I knew the lyrics well enough). It was extremely fun and extremely exhausting, and I definitely don’t want to play Rock Band for a while
As a fundraiser, it was a big success, and we beat our goal by 25%.
There’s a few pics posted on our website if anyone is interested: www.theatreonfire.org. Don’t know if anyone cares, but I thought some of the Rock Band players here might like it.
