I just realized that I work for a bunch of fucking *MORONS*.....

Okay, long story short, the company I work for has three retail locations, lets call them location A, B, and C (very creative choice of names, eh?) in very different physical locations, spread widely across the state

last summer, location A was robbed, classic smash-and-grab, in and out before the cops could arrive, we still haven’t got any leads on the perps

i told both store managers and the owner that we should alert the other store, as well as step up security measures in our store…
my recommendations were ignored

a few months later, location B (where I worked) was broken into, same M.O., crowbar the door, smash-n-grab the merchandise, again, local PD useless
again, I told management to inform the other store and step up security…
again I was ignored

we then moved location B to another town with better foot traffic (and right in-between low-income housing and a homeless shelter ), while we were in the process of setting up the new store, location C was hit

same as above, useless cops, my recommendations ignored…
at this point, the owner starts whimpering and whining about the possibility of the insurance company dropping his stores…
but does he listen to my recommendations, no!

but wait, it gets better!..

last night, location A was hit AGAIN, by a more methodical thief or thieves, they got away with enough inventory to be considered Grand Theft…
I made my usual recommendations, this time even sending an e-mail out to the managers with links to a security fencing company that sells roll-up security grates and collapsable security fences, and have sent an e-mail to that company for pricing requests, I showed the link to the owner, his immediate response?

“oh, those fences are ugly, I don’t like how they look…”

AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!

Uhh, HELLOOO, MC’FLY, WHO CARES WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE, THEY’RE THERE TO DETER THEFT ATTEMPTS, LOOKS ARE IRRELEVANT!!! THINK OF HOW NICE A SECURITY SYSTEM YOU COULD GET WITH THE VALUE OF THE MERCHANDISE THAT WAS STOLEN!!!

As a sort of semiserious joke, I said that if we got those grates installed, we could put a sign on them that says “Danger, High Voltage”, just a sign a simple psychological deterrent, the fence would not be electrified (much to my displeasure), his response was “no we can’t do that, it would be bad”

Helooo, McFly, is this thing on?, the fence would NOT be electrified, it’s a psychological deterrent to scare off the would-be casual thief…

I’ve finally realized, I work for a MORON!

what the hell, if he doesn’t care, why should I, problem is, I DO care, I have a homicidal view of theft, in my mind, criminals have NO rights, they waive those rights as soon as they make the CONSCIOUS DECISION to commit a crime, and should have to live with the results, whatever they may be…

fucking morons!

It seems like you do, indeed, work with short bussers.

But I’m surprised that the police have been no help. The thieves have a pattern. They rob stores in alphabetical order.

Beauty!

You’ve done your duty. If the owner would rather lose money than protect his merchandise, that’s his problem. No sense getting stressed about it. Let it go.

Your boss’s insurance company should be demanding extra security measures at this point under penalty of canceling his policy. Sounds like there’s incompetence on several sides of this equation.

Whatever you do, don’t offer your services as a guard dog.

Takes one to know one.

I was once a the only teller at a bank. I got robbed by the same guy 2 time in 2 weeks. Because of that, some bigwig manager came down to assess the security situation. One solution he had was to convert the glass of my window to bullet proof. He dropped the idea when I pointed out that the hole in my window was approximately three feet in diameter, somewhat larger than your average bullet. His final solution was to put beepers on the doors so we could tell when people walked in and out. It didn’t offer any more safety, but out lives were filled with the merry sound of annoying beeps all day long.

At a company where I work, whoever was the last person out one night (we sometimes worked very late) didn’t set the alarm. The owner arrived first the next day and was upset to find the alarm not set.

The bosses “solution?” A log sheet where the last person out had to date and sign that they had set the alarm. HELLO!

Not seeing why that warrants a rolleyes.

Is there a reason to believe that these thieves were targeting your store as a chain, and would definitely target the other two stores that are spread widely across the state?

If there was no reason to believe that, I would have ignored you too. A break-in that occurs in city X does not imply that similar break-ins will occur in cities Y and Z.

It does imply that store A should step up security, because if you don’t, the thieves will know your store is an easy touch, and may strike again.

Different cities doesn’t make much sense, but…

When I worked in a movie theatre, we got robbed a number of times. Where would these thieves go to hide right after making their getaway? Almost without exception, another theatre in the chain, right down the street.

I never did understand that logic.

Technically, the new location is in the “bad” part of town witha higher crime rate, however, the new store has not been hit…yet

hopefully it won’t, if i have anything to say about it

it’s kinda’ funny, i stopped off at my local sporting goods store last night as i had to get some more shotshells for my 12-gauge, i was planning to do some trapshooting at my local range , but somehow, partially due to my pissed off mood, i ended up buying a pack of 3" Magnum 00 and 000 Buckshot shells instead of the target loads i originally planned

oh well, i guess i’ll go get the target loads tonight, it’s always good to have some Buckshot shells just in case, and for fun, 000 Buck shells are a real blast to shoot (pun intended  )

yes, they were hitting each store methodically, each store is typically around a 1-2 hour drive from each other, they were getting the store addresses off our webpage

They appear to morons, but if you employ ‘Healthy Skepticism’, an independent observer might think management/owner doesn’t mind being robbed. His biggest worry of insurance being dropped seems to almost say “Ooops, guess I have to find another scheme to steal/defraud investors/ the insurance company”.

Recomendation: You might want to take your personal stuff of sentimental value out of your desk and take it home with you, just in case the 5-gal can of gasoline he keeps under his desk for ‘gas-price emergencies’ accidentally catches fire overnight. :dubious:

Wait a sec. The police have no leads on any of the 4+ break-ins, but you know that it was the same group of thieves and that they were using your website for information? How?

That seems clear in hindsight, looking at the pattern, but was that really clear after just one robbery?

For robbers to drive a couple of hours to rob a store, they need a pretty compelling reason. It’s harder to case the store, harder to know getaway routes, it feels like a riskier move than hitting a store in your hometown.

Is there something unique about your store that would compel robbers to stick with this one chain? If your store sells things that are commonly available elsewhere in the home city, I’d consider that unlikely.

Easy, the website only has four hits and the thieves stole the exact same thing from each store.
NEXT!!

Anyone want to but a MacBook Pro, cheap?

It took you that long to realize you work for a moron?

I hate theft, too. My stuff is MY stuff - I worked for the money to buy MY stuff, and it’s MINE, not yours, you grubby, bad person who wants to take it from me for no better reason than I have it and you don’t. When you do take it from me, I have to work and earn more money to replace the stuff of MINE that you just took, so it’s two steps forward and one step back for me financially. It’s not right, and I don’t like it one bit.
