I just saved a groundhog

There’s a groundhog that’s been running around outside the office, and they’re trying to trap him. The official story is that he’s going to live out his life on a farm, but the ugly truth is that they’re going to send him to Groundhog Heaven. But the traps haven’t worked until today.

Just a few minutes ago, one of the consultants came by and mentioned that Phil (as we’ve named him) was in the trap. We decided that since it’s after 5 on a Friday, he could easily be in there all weekend. That’s cruel, so we went out and let him go. I’m sure HR would be pissed about that decision, but I don’t feel too bad about it.

And yes, I know they’re destructive and that it’s not good to encourage them to live around here (even though the native landscaping is intended to encourage wildlife to come around). It just seemed incredibly cruel to let the poor guy die of dehydration or exposure.

I hope you relocated him far enough away to reduce the chances of him just getting trapped again.

So what you’re saying is you aided and abetted the escape of an evil Nazi groundhog?

[sub]Good on you for not leaving the little fella to suffer all weekend in a cage.[/sub]

Nice work. Piss on HR.

Good for you. I once had to let a squirrel out of one of those things. The little rodent was going nuts. How was the groundhog taking it? They seem a bit more low-key than your average maniac squirrel.

He was fairly upset about it, and he ran like hell when we opened the cage for him. We didn’t think to relocate him, but since the trap door on the cage was already sprung, we knew he couldn’t get back in over the weekend.
