I just saw a pro-capitalism (or was it anti-anit-globalization?) rally!

Walking home from the DC DMV a little while ago, I saw what appeared to be a pro-capitalism rally on Capitol Hill near Union Station. Some signs read “Honk if you love capitalism”, “It’s my SUV you SOB”, “capitalism = jobs”, etc… And there was a guy in a tiger suit. No flags were burned (although it was directly in front of a gas station and they didn’t look like the self-immolation types) and the National Guard had not been called in by the time I had left.

Does capitalism need a rally?

[tongue firmly in cheak]
Sure, in the same way that as a white straight middle class man I should be concerned about my rights being stepped on by all the gays, blacks, women, wealthy, and poor who actually get more rights than me!

Um, a guy in a tiger suit? Was there a film crew anywhere around?

Didn’t Michael Moore held a “Corp-Aid” concert on Wall Street a few years ago?

There is an annual “Walk for Capitalism” Day, held in various cities. Here in HK, it attracted 4 people (1 in every 2 million of the population).

I think the idea is to counteract the anti-globalization retards, but it strikes me as redundant - you might as well have a pro-Motherhood movement. The benefits of capitalism and the total lack of alternatives are self-evident.

Well, Hemlock, the benifits of not drinking and driving are self-evident as well, but you don’t see anyone bad-mouthing MADD.

I’m SO SORRY MY BELOVED MONITOR, but you were the first thing that the contents of my mouth encountered when I read this!

Bwahaha…hahahahah…haha

Good old Honkers, the spiritual headquarters of RAMPANT CAPITALISM could only muster up four (4) punters for the Walk for Capitalism Day?

I think that’s gorgeous…maybe there IS hope for this world yet!

grim etc - MADD have a point. The anti-globalizationists don’t (or they have 20 contradictory ones).

kambuckta- It was a source of some amusement here. The 4 individuals were westerners - Ayn Rand fans. Everyone else was too busy making money.

You mean Ayn Rand still has 4 fans?

I’m assuming the tiger suit was somehow affiliated with the Exxon station where the rally was, which happens to be halfway between the Heritage Foundation and the Ronald Reagan Republican somethingorother building. I’m assuming the protesters were interns there, or perhaps they were the “angry white men” that Michael Moore refers to. With some women thrown in.

There are alternatives to capitalism, it’s just that most of them are just as bad or worse.

And btw anti-globalisation and anti-capitalism aren’t the same things… Me: globalisation good (depending on what you mean by it I guess), capitalism not so good.
