I just saw the 1st sign of Spring

An Anoli Lizard … Rather thin and dark to soak up the sunlight… We have these,Geckos,Striped Racers(may not be their real name) and Scaly Fence Lizards… Usually there are baby lizards on my flowers, eating the bugs:)

Our dog-walking meet-up group passed by some wetlands yesterday and the eerie warbling trill of the spring peepers (frogs) was so loud you’d almost want earplugs! I’ve had a hard time believing this spring would come, but they feel it in every fiber of their bodies!

I was just out in my front yard picking up branches and sticks that the winter storms knocked down, and I noticed a bunch of daffodils poking up thru the mulch! WOOHOO!! And I’ve seen some robins, including one poor bird that was smashed into the grill of a car. So sad when robins resort to suicide by car…

Fuuuuuuck.

We’re still well under a few feet of snow.

I heard birds on the weekend.

People are asking me how to get to the Red Sox or Twins stadium. Must be spring.

How about 81 degrees? Is it Spring yet? (Or Summer?)

Die, snow! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! Die! AH HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

We woke up yesterday to ducks in the pool! That’s the surest sign here that spring is nigh!

I looked out the kitchen window last week, and counted 11 robins in one tree. I think they were a bit confused. It seems too early.

Around here robins stick around all winter, so they’re not really a harbinger of spring for me. In fact my wife gets annoyed every time I point out a robin in the dead of winter and exclaim “Look! It’s the first robin of spring!”

I heard the frogs when I came out of work yesterday, so yeah that’s a good sign spring is here.

Okay, how about this? The Goldfinches (male) are just starting to get their brilliant summer yellow color.

In my part of California I think we’re headed straight into summer. Years ago I spent the first weekend of Spring in Yosemite cross-country skiing along Glacier Point Road. I was in Yosemite last weekend --it was 82 degrees in the Valley and the Badger Pass ski area has been closed for lack of snow.

The snowdrops are finally blooming. I think some years we’ve seen them as early as January.

Oh, and sparrows are building their annual nest on our front porch.

For anyone who wants to hear the spring peepers, I have a brief sound recording here.

Yep I hear frogs/toads in swampy/pond areas, and my sister has crocuses blooming.

My wife has started sniffling and sneezing, a sure sign of spring! Or fall…

Hence my UserName.

Noticed several road-killed skunks. I’ve been told that is a sign of spring. I guess that means they are out of hibernation or it’s their mating season or something.

I planted over 200 spring flower bulbs last fall. Daffodil, hyacinth, crocus, iris and tulip of many varieties. I can’t wait until they start popping up.

No, no, it goes,
Roadkill has its seasons
Just like anything,
It’s possums in the autumn,
And it’s farm cats in the spring
