I just saw the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen trailer.

moores basically washed his hands of the movie, as in somebody else is doing the writing etc.based on the alan moore and kevin o’neills comic book can take them a long way away from the excellent book. there was an interview with him in empire where hes quite happy (like what happened with From Hell) to let them movieise it. he sees them as entirely seperate entities

I got Crappy CGI Overload [sup]TM[/sup] watching that trailer.

Lots of overblown, Hollywood-style effects were a big turn-off for me. Barring some really good reviews (which I don’t expect) I’ll pass on this one.

I’ve only looked at a few issues, but I remember when it came out thinking it was one of the coolest ideas I’ve ever read. the fact it was about $5 an issue turned me off though.

Still, I like the concept.

The movie looks like crap. I don’t like what they’ve done with Hyde. A lot of the early screen shots and things I’ve seen showed him as a guy with REALLY BIG ARMS, but the rest of his body seemed normal sized. Now, he seems completely CGI. Niether of which appeals to me.

It looks like The Avengers. I liked that movie, because it had an interesting feel and it kinda fit the movie. The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen is NOT The Avengers.

Who would want the rights for Fu Manchu? The guy’s an embarassing stereotypical relic, at this point…

I’m hoping that Exoskeleton meant to type “Fantomas.” Read about him here.

I enjoyed the comic album, but was disappointed that Moriarty and Fu Manchu turned out to be the Big Villains. Like, duh. Fantomas would have been much cooler.

As for the roadster, as Captain Nemo is a member of the League (in the movie, at least - haven’t had the opportunity to read the comic), he needs ground transportation that’s just as impressive as the Nautilus, doesn’t he?

The movie’s website lists the members of the (movie) League, their abilities and why they’re in it, and some of their equipment.

I had always heard that somewhere in the world was a person who liked the film version of The Avengers, but I thought that was just an urban legend.

He should’ve gotten in touch with Robur. Maybe he’d’a leased him the Terror.

No, no typing mistake. The villain is not Fantomas. As I understand it, the ‘Fantom’ will be a made-for-this-movie character. I think he’s masked, perhaps inspired by the Phantom of the Opera.

Whatever. My expectations are low, hopefully it will not be ‘Howard the Duck’.

Tom Sawyer? Tom friggin’ Sawyer? You have got to be kidding me. I loved the comic, but based on that alone, I’ll be giving the movie a miss.

I’ll be damned. Now that I’ve done some searching, I find as many references to Allan Quatermain as to Allan Quartermain. Why would Haggard alternate the spelling of his own character? Or was it a mistake on the part of a publisher or editor?
