$5000 for a two night stay at the Star Wars Holiday Special!
I hope this viddie doesn’t get pulled like most of the others:
With all the stars DizCorp has access to, the best they could get to appear is one of the kids from “The Goldbergs”? Look at what they show you, with all the artist’s concept drawings of beautiful people, then imagine what it will really look like-poorly dressed cosplayers and screaming kids making it impossible to hear whatever acts are going on, long lines at the bar etc.
For $5000 bucks I can get a decent used car, bub!
Theme park and Star Wars fangirl Jenny Nicholson, who went to experience the “cruise” for herself, has posted a review/post-mortem about the entire fiasco. As typical of Jenny’s videos, it’s extremely exhaustive and therefore extremely long, but I think it’s well worth watching the entire thing. If you just want to get to her analysis of the failure, scroll forward to Chapter 18 “Failure” at 3:30:24.
I watched the whole thing (not in one sitting) and was thoroughly entertained. Jenny really gave what I thought was a fair and balanced account of her experience with the Galactic Cruise making sure to praise Disney when they did right and castigate them when they did wrong. Although I’m a big Star Wars fan, the experience was cost prohibitive and I was never going to be a customer. I would have been pissed had I paid that much money for the experience.
What I found most interesting was Jenny’s disappointment that so much of the Star Wars Land experience that was promised was put behind the Galactic Cruise paywall. i.e. Interacting with aliens and fun stuff like that. I last visited Disney World back in 2000 and I’m not sure I want to go back. It sounds like the experience as a whole has only gotten more expensive and less fun.
I enjoyed this video a lot more than I thought I would. Initially I was put off a little by her voice (“don’t know if I can listen to her for 4 hours!”) and the costumes. But I got over it–turns out she’s smart, articulate and has a sense of humor. And she obviously did her research and put a lot of work into making the video. Despite her negative assessment of the hotel, she’s not a Disney hater…after posting the video she went to Disney World on vacation.
