I just won a diplomatic victory in Civ3!

Okay, okay, so it was on Chieftain level, but it’s kinda hard to get used to the new strategies. Five civs (including mine) voted for me. Katherine of Russia voted for herself. And two civs abstained.

I won!

I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU

Willpower. Willpower.

I’ll get this game someday, really, honestly I will.

I’m fine.

Gaaah.

So I buy this game last Tuesday. First day that it was out. Read the manual at lunch. I sez to myself, “John, you could regularly beat Civ 2 at the Emperor level. But there are some big concept changes; perhaps you should start slow. Start at the Monarch level. You should be able to handle that pretty well.”

I have been playing this goddamned game as much as possible since I first bought it, and last night was the first time I created an empire that was not last in troop strength, size, and culture by the time I reached 1 AD. Gaaah.

This game, it kicks my ass quite well. One day, one day in the next few weeks, I shall see the Industrial Age. Oh, yes, I shall.

I screwed myself, because I abstained after I built the damn UN. Tie vote between me and Joan d’Arc.

So I showed them, I just went and built a spaceship. HA!

I expect we’ll see a patch real soon. At Apolyton, there’s a coupla things people are really screaming about.

One is corruption. It’s murder whenever you sprawl, but hey, that’s part of the new strategy, and I think they’re cry babies. They’re trying to play Civ3 with Civ1&2 strategies.

The other major gripe is a legit bug. The Air Superiority Mission just flat-out doesn’t work. You can send up ten fighters and it won’t matter. You’re gonna get bombed to pieces.

Hey, I just posted a question in IMHO about Civ III. I’ll ask here also. . .

I can’t get a Cultural win. Bigger cities with more land covered. All the Great Wonders. Libraries, universities, coliseums in all my cities. I’m more advanced technologically. I’ve got less cities and a smaller military, but am more advanced in each. I’ve only play with one rival, but Lincoln always gets his ass kicked.

P.S. I’m a Civ newbie. You won’t be seeing as much from me until I get Civ weary. What I gotta do? Huh?

I got tired of getting my ass kicked, so I started a Cheiftain game with only 3 other civs.

It’s dull. I’m so far advanced it’s stupid.

When I try the same parameters one step up in difficulty, I get my butt kicked. Blech.

Stupid addictive game.

Biggirl,
The AI is very intelligent. It realizes you are in Brooklyn, so it assumes you know nothing about culture…

GDRLH…

[sub] Still trying to get the Brooklyn Museum for the NYC Dopefest? [/sub]

How close are you? What’s your histogram show?

It shows me way, way ahead in the beginning. Then when India starts adding cities (because they have so much more room. Culture makes the cities huge) they slowly catch up. By 2050 they’ve got 460 points and I’ve got 440 points-- or something like that. I usually lose by 10 points or less overall.

Of course I always ask for extra turns after that and annihilate them with my superior army. . . but that’s not the point!!!
