I know know the depths of human stupidity

My real estate office is having some trouble with those nice folks at the gummit. I’m not too worried, it happens, and it will cost the company, not me. The issue involves one salesperson and four transactions.

I go to empty the garbages as I do every Saturday morning, and this person’s garbage can has a separate bag sitting next to it. I look in the bag. There are the files for the four deals.

I am amazed. Did this person think I wouldn’t look a separate bag sitting next to the garbage? I wouldn’t just pick it up and dump it. It could have been put there accidentally.

The other amazing part is the shredder is located about twenty feet from this person’s desk. Not only the depths of someone’s stupidity, but also of their complete and utter laziness.

I’ve put the files in my back file cabinet and locked it. It’s going to be very interesting when they get to the gummit.

Do you think they were trying to do away with the files, or were just stupid as heck and put them there “to remind themselves to turn them in”? (I’m thinking they were trying to throw the files out, but I’m unsure if that is the case, and you know the person, I don’t.)

Perhaps if you’re going to give incriminating documents about your company to the government, you might want to hold off posting about your plans on the internet until after you’re done, unless you feel like starring in somebody else’s thread…

If you’re going to commit a crime, you should at least make the effort to commit it in a competent manner. If you’re going to illegally dispose of some incriminating evidence, you should carry them out to the dumpster and throw them in yourself. Better yet, take them down to the furnace and burn them.

I don’t know which branch of the gummint your salesperson is dealing with, but deliberately trying to destroy files after they’ve been notified not to is, at least in some situations, an actual federal crime. So even though someone might get mad at you for retrieving the files, you also may have saved someone a visit to the steel chateau.
