At my high school, each senior is required either to do a year-long project in a techlab or work with a company and do stuff that relates to the subject of the techlab. Some techlabs are Biotechnology, Chemistry Analysis, and Computer Systems. There are twelve total.
Some of you may have seen my recent thread about programming tips, and know where this is going. I rather enjoy programming, and I really don’t like doing hands-on experiments. I’d rather just study the theory or work with a program. I’m not good with computers, but I’m good at programming.
I’m going to take Computer Science (a required course) in summer school after sophomore year, AP CompSci as a techlab semiprerequisite junior year, and spend senior year writing a game at least four hours a week.
I’m not sure if Computer Systems is one of the ‘slacker’ techlabs, but it’ll sure be fun for me!
This means that I’ll have to get better at writing code for long periods of time, but I can do that. It’s just a matter of working out exactly what I’m going to write, and only then writing it.
