Yeah, that thread was a doozy of a trainwreck, but BFD-- it’s the Pit. And **Weirddave **was hardly part of the trainwreck-- he only posted a few times anyway.
I think a better way to have handed it would be to have asked a mod to close that thread, and then open a legit GD or GQ thread to carry on the discussion.
You mind telling me how? ElvisL1ves told a blatant lie. I called him on it. I gave him repeated opportunities to either provide proof of his accusation, or retract it. He chose instead to hurl insults. I don’t believe I even insulted anyone in that thread, beyond calling Homebrew an idiot. So how does my pointing out a lie make me guilty of making the thread “ugly”? The whole thing, including this spin-off thread, is more amusing than anything else.
Because you joined that thread to defend the indefensible (manny being an off-topic ass) and continued the stupid feces-slinging highjack that had absolutely nothing to do with the OP and everything to do with offended political sensibilities.
I find ugly amusing too sometimes, just not when friends of mine are the ones being ugly.
While you’re looking for the stuff Weirddave is asking for, mebbe you should see if you can also find somethin’ in that thread challenging “my political leanings.”
My ire was raised initially by what appeared to me to be willful ignorance, and subsequently by stupid and baseless ad hominems. I made nary a statement in there which can even be remotely construed “political.”

My entire focus was, and remains, on ElvisL1ves attributing something to Manny that Manny never said. The fact that it was Manny is immaterial to me, I would have pointed out his lies if he was making shit up and attributing it to Rjung or Dio. I think you have one thing right, tho. ElvisL1ves is lying through his teeth because of his political sensibilities.

This notion you have that nothing that is said outside a thread is relevant to what is said inside it is ridiculous. Now go try to think a little harder.
Then, consider the thread topic, consider your posts, and consider who’s responsible for derailing the train there. Here’s another helpful hint for you: When you have nothing to contribute, don’t contribute it.

For my own part, I’ve just become increasingly annoyed with the whole use of the Pit as another forum with cusswords. Fuck that. If you’re gonna flame somebody, flame 'em! And expect to get flamed back! So I’m just having a little bit of retro fun at LHD’s expense. This forum ain’t called “The Crock Pot” or “The Simmerer” and it’s certainly not called “GD with Swearing.”
As to being off-topic, that’s actually what set me off. There is no topic. ‘Doh-dee-doh, here’s something that’s probably dumb, what do you guys think?’ What do I think? I think they’re lonely in IMHO, that’s what I think.

If a person is angry about something, but does not want to spend a long time writing an OP, that’s his business. You most likely want to defend delay, but have no reasonable explanation for such an excretable comment of his.
No; it wasn’t. Check my post #93 (which in turn references my posts #12 & #24). It appeared to me that LHoD was being willfully ignorant through his refusal to seek an answer to what he admitted might be important. I stated this several times in several ways in that thread. I fail to understand how completely this essential distinction has escaped you given your self-implied thorough familiarity with the thread.

There certainly are more than a few folks around here who don’t understand the difference between “supports Politician X” and “refuses to denounce Politician X for any reason at any time.”

I’m serious here. Either you say any statement of factual inaccuracy is a lie (e.g. if I refer to Luther’s 96 theses), which reduces lying to something about as serious as leaving one’s shoelaces untied, or you need some evidence that the alleged liar knew he wasn’t telling the truth - was intending to deceive.
(FWIW, the dictionary on my shelf includes both definitions, so that’s not the issue. The question is, which one works in this environment?)
And if the latter definition, isn’t it quite possible that Elvis could have honestly misread manny’s early sturm und drang as taking DeLay’s side? Seems like there’s a lot of room for that.
Elvis can speak for himself, but how I read it was that he saw you jumping in for no other purpose but to accuse him of lying, rather than discussing the actual topic of the thread. Accordingly, he felt he was justified in telling you to get lost, in stronger language of course.

Fair enough, then. I won’t even flame you if you place a proper Pit thread complaining about that. 
manhattan, So, if I understand you correctly, you object to the way that the Pit has organically evolved over time and, in absence of a Mod moving threads or an Administrator making some sort of ruling on the type of threads that are to be started in the Pit, have taken it upon yourself to make threads here more hostile than they would otherwise be? Do I have that right?
Just out of curiousity, does it matter to your employer?
