I like it. Here is some text to satsify the title length requirement. (I like it a small bit less now, but I still like it.)

I was going to piggyback this comment onto an existing thread, but I didn’t see a thread for general positivity. As anyone who knows me in meatspace will tell you, “general positivity” is not my stock in trade. I’m also not a fan of change for the sake of change. I hate the “you’re just objecting because you’re not used to it yet” argument, and whenever anyone makes it, I want to magically change their car to steer left when they turn the wheel right. They’ll get used to it eventually.

In this case, though, the number of genuine improvements actually do outweigh the downgrades and inconveniences. While I still pine for a world in which “upgrade” means “everything that used to work still works, and also a bunch of new stuff works and it’s faster and better,” I understand that that’s not the world we live in, so all I ask is that an upgrade justifies its existence by overwhelming the things it broke with the quality of its actual improvements. This software switch, to my mind, has done so.

The downsides are an annoying sidebar that shows weird random threads, which I blocked with uBlock Origin, and infinite-scroll bullshit, which is stupid and bad and always will be, but is also ubiquitous so what the fuck ever, and you can’t use spaces or punctuation in usernames. (Infinite scroll is stupid and bad. If there’s a way to turn it off and go back to normal human pagination, do it.) BUT, the browsing experience is smooth; I don’t get server errors; the live preview pane is neat; I don’t get server errors; the warnings about zombie threads are nice (I’m the guy who drunk-rezzed a thread from the 90’s); and also I don’t get server errors. Those are just the things I’ve noticed so far.

So, thanks for caring enough to make the improvements. I haven’t tested the Search function yet, but one hopes it can’t be worse than what we used to have, where the official recommendation was to ignore it and use Google instead. Here’s hoping I can become an active member again, if anyone remembers me from a decade ago. Cheers!

(As you might have guessed, the original title of this thread was “I like it.” I was informed that titles need to be 10 characters or more. That is very stupid. If there is a way to change it, please do so. I still like it, though. Cheers again!)

Welcome back and I concur! Good to see you again!

Mine only complaint is the 3500-character limit on posts. Note that the limit includes characters from quotes and other coding (italics, underlines, colors, tables, etc). There’s also a limit of three posts in a row. The limits imply that in-depth discussion is not valued here.

But the rest is great. Easy to navigate about. Easy to read. Easy to post. I’m definitely posting more and reading more.

I agree with the need for pagination and that character minimums and limits are bad. I would love to see better date and time stamps on posts. I don’t care who posted last when I’m trying decide if I should look at a thread, I want to know who was the OP. And replacing names with “avatars” next to thread titles on a forum page was a bad idea. There are a very few avatars I recognize as belonging to any one person and too many alphabet avatars. I’d really enjoy it if I went to my “control menu” instead of notifications (badges are dumb) and lastly, really the only thing I genuinely loath is @ notifications. All (mostly except for @ notices) minor things I can live with. It’s not so bad here, despite being visually awful

You can mouse-over or click avatars to see who they are.

Go through the notification settings on your profile to reduce notifications.

I access the Dope exclusively on my phone, mouse over isn’t really an option for me. Plus the whole avatar thing is just really badly implemented on here I think. I’ve already gone through the settings. I’d rather the menu bet set to the user control menu than notifications by default. Another poor setup/design decision imho

I’ve used the search function. It is very slick. Give it a whirl!

Uh, forgot to mention some of the things I do like.
I like that I can mute entire forums that I never go into so that I don’t even see them unless I scroll way down the page. I can unpin all the stickies at the top of the forums. On vbulletin they weren’t terribly bad but here they were intrusive and I had to scroll a bit in order to get to the discussions. I really like the way the text editing menu works in the reply box and I like the way the smilies and emoticons work in that even if you use one not supported by this format, there is sn attempt to get your intended message through instead of just a blank box.

And no 50* messages
