I am not sure if I should be ashamed or not…
I used to watch it, or so I thought- because it was the lamest show of all time, and it was funny because it was so cheesy.
In other words, I watched it because I hated it so much.
Then lately, I have come to realize that I don’t dislike the Brady Bunch. Yes, it is hopelessly unrealistic and cheesy- but don’t you see? That’s what makes it so fascinating…this view into bizarro world.
Then there are other things that I thought I hated but i actually like-
Oh god, please kill me- Titanic
Early Michael Jackson
Pickled Pig’s feet (I used to eat them to impress my friends because they were so gross- now i eat them when I’m all alone)
Worms- leave me alone, they are good
Seventeen Magazine- yes,I like teenybopper magazines and I’m 23…sighhhh…
I could list a bunch of things, but I just wanted to know if there is a word for this phenomenon-
Paying attention to something because you hate it so much, and then realizing one day that you honestly like the thing in question- and possibly being afraid to admit it.
I’m with you on the Brady Bunch. And I didn’t mind Titanic the first time I saw it. And there’s a Seventeen Magazine sitting on the speaker right behind my head. The rest… Well, you’re on your own. Worms?
My girl just love the Bradys.
Cannot believe they are really the grown up people seen on Entertainment Tonight stories.
Its nothing to be ashamed of. This show is a great piece of Americana.
My feelings towards Marcia fluctuate: I go between alternately abhoring her and wanting to be her. She gets to meet everyone she wants to, and she gets all the great guys. And that guy who was kind of uncool, who she dumped for the football player- even after she brushed him off, he dated her. She got to meet that guy from her diary, AND Davy Jones. (Like she’s a bigger fan than I am…)
Other things that I sort of came to realize I liked…
South Park. I think I once sort of hated it.
The Simpsons. (I sort of thought it was weird and then I liked it…)
Seventh Heaven. I think its the stupidest show I’ve ever seen, but I have watched it more than once. hope i’m not in danger of becoming an eternal fan.
YA books…the ones that are dumb and superficial but that I read anyway.
