TV Shows that are very popular that you HATE

There are many T.V shows out there. From the minute-by-minute thriller of 24, to reruns of the legendary Seinfeld, to the gangster show of The Sopranos.

Many of these shows are popular, and I am a fan of such shows like C.S.I, Friends, Family Guy and House M.D.

However there are various shows that are popular, that I can’t STAND.

In my opinion Everybody Loves Raymond and Scrubs are way too over rated.

Everybody loves Raymond is SO annoying. I hate the wife who constantly bitches about everything. Man if I were Raymond I would divorce her in a second. Also, the parents are so irritating and quite frankly Raymond is idiotic. The only character that saves that show from being completly unwatchable is Raymond’s brother, who can be decent at times.

Srubs is just retarded. The humor there is so pointless and not even remotley relevant to real life situations.

So, fellow dopers, which t.v shows do you HATE, that many people like?

Love Scrubs (may have something to do with Zach Braff), but I am in compelte agreement with you about Everybody Despises and Loathes Raymond.

I don’t hate it, but I’m not feeling much of the Lost love–I just can’t be bothered to try and sort it all out anymore.

Sitcoms are usually ruined for me by the presence of certain actors.

Brad Garrett (sounds like he’s constantly gargling)
John Lithgow (a poor fit for almost any role he’s played except the mental patient in the Twilight Zone movie)
Hugh Laurie (unkempt drunkard jerk)

The show might be great, but the above actors make it unwatchable.

Lost and Desperate Housewives. I’ve even tried watching them once or twice, but absolutely hated both of them.

OTOH, I made fun of Grey’s Anatomy until I had nothing else to watch one week. Watched it and got hooked on it. So I’m definitely willing to give shows a chance, but with the above two, I just can’t take them.

E.

Lost - Which doper called it Stock Character Island? Too true.
Arrested Development - I get it. I just find it painfully unfunny.

Barbara Walters interview specials.

Actually, hate is too stong a word. I disdain the concept of these things so much that I never bother watching them. If I could have some TiVo-like function buttons on my car radio, I wouldn’t even bother listening to the commercials announcing that one is in the offing.

I wouldn’t say I really HATE any TV shows… I just end up not watching them. That said, I feel that Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Heroes are all… um… let’s just say “really overhyped and not something that I’d ever watch”. Oh, and I’d be plenty happier if they stopped making stock CSI-type shows.

I agree with the diagnosis, I just don’t think that it fits any objective definition of “very popular”. :stuck_out_tongue:

definitely American Idol. I’m just not a music person so it’s of no interest to me, and the judges always come across to me as a bunch of bitchy whiners.

foodie department: Rachael Ray, especially 30 Minute Meals, makes my skin crawl. I do admire how hard she works and how she’s made a name for herself but I just want to shove all the manic energy, giggles, yum-o’s, cutesy names, and EVOO into her garbage bowl and drop that into a deep well

LOL, Rachal Ray may be obnoxious but at least she’s better then Rachal Ray Sucks.com…FAR better! Seriously, that site is just a bunch of junoir high school girls carping at her for being too fat or for wearing ugly clothes…too too funny.
Another one for American Idol…I still remember watching the end of the last season at college, and laughing at how cheesy it was! I did get to meet Constantine thou when he was in the Wedding Singer on Broadway, which was cool!

Much like Arrested Development mentioned upthread, Scrubs is anything but “very popular.” They both may well be overrated, but that’s something else entirely.

Two and a Half Men. I think that show is number one for some reason. I hate it.

There are other shows I just don’t get into, but I can understand at least why others do. That one, not so much.

Hate it as well. But not nearly as much as I hate Heroes.

The writing is lame, everything is entirely predictable, and the stereotypes are unbelievable (Indian geneticist arrives in New York, and now he drives a cab).

I meant that it’s unbelievable that they use the classic stereotype of Indians and Japanese people, not that the stereotypes themselves are unbelievable. Sorry for the double post.

I watch a lot of Food Network, but the two I can’t stand are Rachel Ray and Emeril, the two most popular. I’m an Alton Brown fan myself.

I would have to say Friends. The sad thing is, due to ex-wife, I watched almos the whole series

I completely despise Two and Half Men - it’s just completely terrible, stupidly unfunny, and in any other era other than our current one it would have been cancelled before completing its first season. I feel personally insulted that it continually gets great ratings - who the hell are these MORONS that are watching it?!

I also really, truly hate The War at home - it’s so bad that it seems like a parody of a sitcom, and not one of those funny self-aware self-parodies like “Married with Children.” It’s unthinkable that this show is going into its third or fourth season already.

I hate Grey’s Anatomy with the burning heats of a million suns. Having this cutsey soap opera in scrubs jammed down my throat is a truly painful thing. I mean, House stretches my suspension of disbelief but that damn show shreds them to ribbons. Ugh.
Incidentally, I love Two and A Half Men. Makes me giggle and the girls make me drool. I be a simple fellow.

I can’t stand 24, it just seems to me to be right wing torture porn wish fulfillment and I agree with other about Scrubs, every episode is a very special episode (shudder).

Wow would we ever not spend a night in front of the same tube! I think those three actors are terrific!

Shows I hate(d) - I’d say *Seinfeld *was number one. Stupid, annoying, mean whiny people getting their panties in a twist about stupid, annoying things. I was overjoyed when the writers (who obviously hated the characters as much as I did) jailed the morons at the end.

Lost lost me right at the start. ER - even that’s too gory for me. Never got into it at all.

I agree about Everybody Loves Raymond. Just don’t see the funny in mean/cranky/crabby. Oh they’re bitching at each other again. Ha. Ha.

Curb Your Enthusiasm. No worries here - no enthusiasm to curb.

And pretty much anything by Aaron Spelling. When they did a retrospective, I was surprised to realize that I had avoided every one of his shows.

Many of the shows mentioned have long since gone of the air, but including those:

Home Improvement - I never found it to be even slightly amusing - how that got to be a hit is a mystery to me.

The Office - maybe I have worked in too many offices, but the people are just annoying and obnoxious, and yes, I know that is the point, but I still don’t find it funny.

Entourage - same as above - annoying, spoiled brat pack - I lived in LA too long and met too many, and they ain’t funny in real life. This show accurately portrays these self-important, useless-to-society, little pricks - and I wouldn’t care if the characters all got run over by a bus. Plus, if you believe the gossip rags in Las Vegas, the actors seem to behave here in real life the same as their TV characters - another reason for me to hate this show.

I disagree about Two And A Half Men - I think it is very funny, but I am surprised they get away with some of that dialog on broadcast television. I also like Curb Your Enthusiasm - it took me a few tries, and then I got hooked - Larry David is the perfect curmudgeon jerk, but in a sick way, I like watching him bury himself in a hole deeper as he tries to rationalize his way in and out of situations. Give Curb another try sometime…it really does grow on you.

House - FOR GOD’S SAKE, SHAVE MAN! That guy wouldn’t be allowed in a hospital to fix the cable, much less on payroll.

I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned According to Jim. I have to mute the commercials for this show or I’ll go into a Hulk-style rage, and my poor wife will just slowly rock back and forth mumbling “how is that funny… how… how…”
