Here. Before that, I lived here. A decade ago, I lived and worked here (which is at the corner of Mass and Nebraska in DC; I don’t know why it says Arlington).
Where do you live?*
[sub]*Now, don’t be stupid. If you don’t want your personal information on a message board don’t post your home place - but maybe you have another favorite location?[/sub]
Not a lot of buildings in that first one. Explains a lot of our e-mail conversations when I was trying to figure out what you do. I’m still a bit perplexed, but at least now I know where to find you (outstanding in your field)…
Here is where I live, on the left hand side of the picture. Lots of houses, so you can’t really tell my address from there. pbrtallboy used to live in this 'hood, too. He lived a block east of me, as if that tells you anything.
He doesn’t live there now, so I don’t think he would mind me telling you that.
At the bottom right part of the picture is where they built the South Carolina Aquarium. There’s also an IMAX theater there. It would be above the building that is casting a massive shadow, right between the L-shaped dock and the little short dock. So, I live within walking distance of that. The stuff at the top is shipping containers. There’s a branch of the state Ports Authority there. The river to the right is the illustrious Cooper River. Across the river is where the USS Yorktown is docked.
Here’s the front and back of our house. In the two years since these were taken, we’ve added a fence and lots of landscaping. No pics of that tho.
And here is where I work. There used to be an overhead photo that included the engineering building, but I can’t find it.
And because I have nothing better to do right now (and also because I forgot to thank the lovely and talented TubaDiva for giving the ok to post this AND making it a Weird Earl), I also used to live here, here, and here.
*I didn’t have a car when I lived there, so I only found it because I remembered there was a Taco Hell out the main gate, and the address for Taco Hell was on the web.
**I think. It was someplace between Bath and Phippsburg. It’s kinda hard to tell…
And here is where we’ll be building our retirement home. The road that’s running roughly northwest to southeast is Oak Drive. We own about 1.5 acres across the street from the big light squarish area in the lower right quadrant. It’s heavily wooded, and it will remain that way. Just clearing enough for the house and drain field. Can’t wait!
OK, so my first post was jumping the gun a bit… that’s what I get for not checking links first. Anyway, here is where our neighborhood is, tho back when this was taken, it was all trees. Between the snaky development of cul-de-sacs in the upper right and the first straight road going off to the northwest, there’s a bunch of trees. Today, there’s a road with 49 houses on it that parallels then curves around the straight road. They bulldozed most of the trees. Lucky for us, our house backs on the conservation area, so there’s lots of trees and wildlife beyond our back deck.
Top Left: Rose Street. One of the oldest streets in the town. I used to work in The Rose, a pub just off this street. Top Right: St. Paul’s Church. Not sure which century it’s from. 16th, maybe. Bottom Left: The Town Hall. Rebuilt in 1802. There’s a nice sandwich place there I often eat in. Bottom Right: The Tudor House. The tudor facade was rebuilt in the 19th century and is fake, but the interior is original tudor - exposed beams, all that palaver. It was used as a school for many years.
I live just down river from your old stomping grounds, right here, and I used to do some work at SCSU (which I was guessing you went to since the locale of your second map) small terra, huh?
