I lost a check but I can't say it was a bad thing

Tonight I stuck a check (in an envelope) in my purse before I went to my yoga class. The check was to pay for an upcoming event.

As I’m approaching the studio in the rain, I reach in my purse for the check. It’s not there. I go through my purse ( a small one without multiple pockets ) and the check is definitely gone.

While it totally wasn’t a big deal … I had blank checks with me and I can stop a check online in less than a minute…I was really kicking myself, I hate it when I lose things because of carelessness.

But I made sure to take the same path home that I took to the class. And I am looking for a dropped envelope and checking out every substantial sized piece of litter.

I didn’t find my dropped check. But I did find an envelope containing 70 euros. Woo Hoo !!!

I’ll have to check out the sidewalk litter more often.

Did you turn it in to the proper authorities?

Yeah, unless you did due diligence to find the owner of that money, that’s a pretty immoral thing to do. I mean, what if you’d lost your money instead of just a check? Wouldn’t you want it returned?

I don’t know about turning it into the authorities, tho. They’d probably just keep it if no one claimed it. They don’t really do that 30 days then it’s yours thing. SITCOMS ARE A LIE

That was pretty lucky. The Gods smiled on you. How much is that in US dollars?

70 euros are roughly 90 US dollars.

But, what country are you in that uses Euros AND has its banks still issuing checks? I am Spanish, I live in Holland, I travel quite a bit around Europe, and the last time I saw a check was like 10 years ago or thereabouts.

Can you explain to us how she diligently searches for the owner of an envelope with cash in it? Put up a sign that says, “If you lost an envelope of cash, call me at xxx”?

No name on the envelope? … Finders keepers, losers weepers. Put some in a charity jar, (it’s good karma to give some back) and you’re good to go!
