Something like 5 years ago I swore I would never send a text message in my life.
Well, let me tell ya’ how that worked out for me!
I lost my phone somewhere outside on Friday while jogging to catch a bus. It’s gone for good at this point and I suppose I have to start thinking about a replacement.
It’s unbelievable how dependent I’ve become on having a computer in my pocket.
You ever have a power outage at home, yet you instinctively flip the light switch as you enter a room? That’s how I feel every minute now.
“I should probably text…Oh, shit.” “I wonder what the score of the… Oh shit.” “Is it going to rain later? Oh shit.” On and on and on…
Just on the off-chance it bounced into the bushes and hasn’t been taken, borrow someone else’s phone, walk down to the bus and call your phone (if you remember the number ;)).
We actually have a cheap prepaid phone specifically for this purpose, which we can re-activate if something happens to one of our phones.
I also have a cheap Amazon tablet, so, when I lost my phone, I just put it in my pocket. A bit bulky, but, honestly, I prefer it. Only problem is the lack of cell service. I don’t mind not calling, but there are a few places I go without free wi-fi.
Droid also does “find my phone”. If you just google “Find My Phone Android” google should automatically pop up a map with your phone’s location (well, it does on Chrome while signed in, anyway).
ETA: You can also ring your phone, even if it is set to silent through the same interface on Google. I’ve had to use all of these several times (Motorola Droid Turbo).
I just had to try that, and it pegged my desk almost perfectly, and instantly. Given the phone has been missing since Friday, however, I doubt OP could find it so easily.
After Kayaker’s message I went to Google and discovered the Android version. I wish I’d known about this on Friday when the battery still had life. So, it’s a no-go too.
Thanks. My email address is displayed on the main screen with no password required. I’m hoping someone finds it, charges it and emails me… but I’m not holding out. I’ll probably replace it in a few days.
I lost my phone a few months ago while on vacation in Israel and had to fly back to the US without one. I was connecting through Istanbul and they had a terrorist attack in the city that morning, so I wasn’t too thrilled about being phone-less. All worked out, but I felt bereft while it was missing.
The best part was getting lost on the way to the Verizon store the next day to replace the phone, because I had no phone to tell me where the store was. Look it up ahead of time? Don’t be ridiculous.
