…and I tried to buy it on DVD. Easy, right?
On Amazon, a used copy is $170! New starts at $200! Seems to be similar on eBay, too.
Why?

Out of production is my guess.
I’m holding onto my dvd copy of the movie Barfly like crazy.
Long out of production. It was available on DVD in a bare bones release very briefly around 1998. Now they don’t have the rights to distribute This Island Earth on DVD so that cuts off any immediate chance to re-release MST3k: The Movie.
It may get redone someday but don’t expect it any time soon.
Check around. There is a legal German-language version that has the original English soundtrack as an option. Not sure what region it is, but at worst, you could watch it on your computer.
Shows what I know. Less than a month after this thread and an new release of the film is announced. It’s currently planned for a release on May 6th and I for one won’t let it slip away from me again.
Well, your timing is excellent. (Hopefully.)
Yaay, We’ve got Movie Sign!
Send them the movie, Frank…
Gee, and I was just going to tell you to make me an offer on the one I bought from Netflix for $5 in 2000!
So what should I do with my VHS copy? Give it to the guy I gave my VCR to? Hold an auction? Walk the streets chanting “Mike broke the Hubble. Mike broke the Hubble”?
I’ll give you mine… if you hand over the SAMPO!!!
Oh thank Og. I’ve been watching my dvd copy sparingly since the two-year-old has learned to open the dvd player. My dvd’s have been getting mysterious smudges and scratches when I’m not looking and I was afraid the MST3K dvd would suffer the same fate. I can breathe easy knowing it’s possible to replace it now.
