I was in Ireland last week. A few days were really nice (high 60s and sunny) while others were terrible (rain/drizzle and cold).
I got up Friday morning with the intent of visiting the Cliffs of Mohr. At first, the day looked nice and sunny. But the clouds rolled in during breakfast, and then the pouring rain started. Grrr.
So we got to the Cliffs of Mohr after a long drive, parked the car at the car lot, and got out to thick drizzle and a cold breeze off the sea. I’ll be honest, I wanted to just get back in the car and head to the hotel. Blech.
But we decided to go through with it, and trudged off to the cliffs.
About 5 minutes after getting to the sights, the clouds parted and the sun came through. It was spectacular!
I really want to go some day. When I was traveling to London regularly I asked my hosts to arrange a weekend trip (on my dime), and they said they would, but they did not.
The Aran Island cliffs were more stunning, mostly because you get to walk right to the edge. Weird how a desire to jump came over me. Not to die, but to just jump for jumping sake, if that makes sense.
We had the same in New Zealand at Mt. Cook which is notorious for being covered in cloud for about 50 weeks a year. The days we were in the area were crystal clear:
I’ve been to the Cliffs Of Moher twice. The first time was a disaster. Huge fog bank, very little visibility and thousands of crestfallen tourists who’d travelled a hell of a lot further than I had to see it.
The second time was unreal. Perfect weather, really good visibility. If you have time to wait weather is very changeable here especially on the western seaboard of Ireland.
