In October of 2007 we lost Dobby. He was only 4 but suffered kidney failure. A much beloved and wonderful guy.
Now, we all know that cats love to nest and burrow in. A fave place has always been the floor of the bedroom clothes closet. In the basket of shoes and stuff on that floor is a pair of rather comfy dress shoes. I can go years without wearing them because I’m not a suit and tie kinda guy.
The need to atttend a funeral today necessitated digging around for said dress shoes. I found them yesterday. And as I packed them, I smelled something. That special something… Dobby ( who urinated all over the house as his kidney issues presented themselves more and more ) must have peed into the right shoe. It did not have the reek of fresh urine; it happened at least 15 months ago.
With no time to shop, I filled the shoe with Dr. Scholl’s foot powder and hoped for the best. Very embarassing, and quite gross.
Can’t see throwing the shoes out. Any idea with cat urine neutralizer would work best inside of a dress shoe??
I don’t know dude. If ever there was a reason for throwing out a pair of shoes you hardly every wear, I’d say “cat pissed on them a year and half ago and the still stink” has got to be right on top of the list.
I love my Luna. I do not love the fact that she peed on my warm parka earlier this week (she has a urinary-tract infection that she’s on antibiotics for now).
I use Nature’s Miracle for getting urine stains and smells out of things. I don’t know if it would work on 15-month-old urine stains, though.
When I took Luna to the vet and he gave me the antibiotic pills, I got some Pill Pockets. Pill Pockets are hollow cylindrical cat treats that are open on one end. The idea is that you put the pill inside the treat, and this makes the cat more likely to swallow it. Luna loves those things. She stood up on her back feet for one the other day, and yesterday she meowed at me like “hurry up with my treat” when I was getting the pill into the treat. She has no idea…
Dude, throw out the shoes. I had to throw out my freaking mattress because the cat peed on it when he was sick, so be thankful he peed in something as cheap as shoes. grumble grumble $600 for a new bed grumble grumble
My little kitty was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy last summer. Sad fact is she’s going to die sometime within the next two years. But up until the inevitable happens she can be kept quite comfortable and happy taking an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic. Every day. Every day for the rest of her life. And I live alone and only have two hands. I was beginning to wonder if the thirty minute bloody fight we were having everyday was making her doomed life worth living.
Thankfully, shortly after her diagnosis, I went with my sister to a cats-only pet store. She spotted the Pill Pockets and pointed them out to me. With still-bleeding, shredded hands I picked them up and took them to the check out, hoping I wasn’t wasting $6.00.
Now she’s wondering how in the world she managed to rate getting a treat EVERY DAY!
They can be cut in half if you’ve got a tiny pill. Actually, she takes half of each pill and I can still wrap a split pocket around them. Also, by necessity, they’re pretty sticky. I saw she was having a little trouble picking it up because of its stickiness. I solved that by pressing a hard treat into it - she can pick it up by the hard treat.
I HIGHLY recommend these for anyone that has to pill a cat. I think I’ve seen a dog version, too.

As far as the OP, cat urine will usually oxidize after it’s exposed to fresh air for a while. Clean what you can and then let them air out. Depending on the material soiled it may or may not work.
