I’ve had my Mau Jim’s for almost two years. They’re the cool wraparound titanium frames that cost about $250. After going several years with cheap shades and not losing them, I figured I was qualified for the good stuff.
So I got them and they rocked. But recently they developed stress cracks at the frames’ points of attachment to the lenses. So I sent them back along with $8.95 and THEY COMPLETELY FIXED THEM.
Actually I can’t tell if they fixed them or replaced them, but either way they’re good as new! That company rocks. I want to have their babies.
I would like to have Maui Jim sunglasses. They seem very well made. And I will only wear polarized glasses.
But I object to paying $250.00+ dollars for something I’m liable to leave at a restaurant or drop off a kayak. Not to mention that they seem to have followed the recent trend of sunglass manufacturers to make these little itty-bitty lenses that barely cover the cornea.
Sunglasses are supposed to block the light! The don’t work if the solar rays can go over, under, and around!
I would like to know what their profit margin is on a pair of sunglasses.
I love them too, but having lost two pairs (~$AU300 EACH) in a year (one of which only two weeks after having them repaired after a catastophic drop) I give up. A $40 pair of plastic Polaroids now do me fine.
There are no other sunnies possible after Maui Jims. Tried Ray Ban’s, Serengheti’s, Oroton (well they LOOKED good), Oakley’s. One pair of Maui JIms and I was hooked. Well, two pair. One black, one brown. Bought them 5 years ago in Hawaii. Still grand.
Let others try them on while we sat and watched children run around. So now a bunch of my friends wear them too.
Down the beach every weekend for Nippers (under 13 y o junior lifesaving) and they are a godsend. Can even tell if it is mine or someone else’s child out there (drowning? waving? ducking thier companion?).
Yes, they are expensive, but boy oh boy, there is no comparison.
There is truely and absoluely no substitute for something that does the job right.
