I loved "Hannibal"- yes, "Hannibal" the much despised Ridley Scott movie...

Muchos spoilers below…

Yeah, I loved it. In fact, on my list of my fifteen top best movies this would be in the top ten, maybe even top five.

Why?

I loved the cinmetography. I’ve never been to Florence, at least not that I can remember, but the movie conveyed the sense that it was one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I loved the way it was filmed. That scene with the credits coming down, beautiful.

I loved the way the movie converged with the artwork in the museum. Made it so cultured.

I loved the scene where the pickpocket guy is stabbed and the blood gushes down, and Pazzi picks up the bracelet with the fingerprints on it, letting the guy die beside him. And the way they did the flashback of Mason telling Clarice Starling what Lector did to him.

I loved the plot. Involving and fun, too. Maybe too intense to be “fun”?

I loved the themes of avarice, of degradation, and of whatever else you can think of.

Ah, hell. It’s a movie. I can’t list everything I loved. Some things are too intangible.

Now I didn’t love everything. In the movie, there’s no mention of Hannibal’s younger sister, Mischa, or Mason Verger’s sister, Margot. And then there’s the ending. But I know that a movie can’t include everything in the book. Anyway, for crying out loud, I just had to make one thread to express how much I loved it. And I don’t mind if not everyone shares my opinion, but is there something wrong with me for not just liking, but loving, a movie that most people hate? For the most part, I’m so critical of movies. Well, anyway. I’m about done, discuss.

I loved it too. I’m not going to repeat all of the reasons Zoggie already discussed. I saw it twice in the theaters, and I’m going to rent it again soon. There aren’t many movies that I like enough to see more than once. In fact, this was one of the few movies I actually liked. My friend (who is in love with Silence of the Lambs) really liked it too.

SPOILER

We were so excited when Hannibal kissed Starling! I wanted it to happen.

I really liked Hannibal, too.

I liked Hannibal as well, book and movie. I didn’t expect it to be the original. The icky parts didn’t bother me, after all this is about Hannibal the canibal. The big upcoming big screen version of Manhunter should be interesting as well.

Hopkins as Lecter is good, not the best I can imagine, but he’s very, very good. The role fits him well enough that it’s scary to see him as Lecter.

I was also disapointed to not see Margot and Mischa, I thought they were pivotal to the film, and I’m anxiously awaiting the DVD edition, hoping they feature more prominently.(or at all!)

As it is, the secion on Mischa in the book is carefully marked with post-it notes, I can’t read it anymore. The tendency of Dr. Lecter to eat the rude makes him a hero in my book, but the death of Mischa rips me apart.

I’m ordering the DVD soon. Y’all can come by and watch with me. I’ll make popcorn.

b.

Yeah. The way Harris described that scene of events got to me. It was just so utterly sick. I also thought that the movie left out some scenes that would have worked really well…the ones that portrayed Mason as truly evil. Like when he’s telling the little boy to poison his cat, or the part where they describe the way he told Margot to bite the pillow to keep from screaming when he raped her, back when they were younger. Creepy as hell.

I’ve heard there was an alternate version on DVD, but as I don’t have that, I’ll stick with renting it from blockbuster. In a few days, I’ll have to see it. I can’t wait. :):)

Well.
I still haven’t watched it, I’m a big chicken and I’m afraid to watch it alone.

I saw Hannibal last night. The infamous last scene disturbed me so much that I couldn’t sleep. Good, bad, or indifferent, that was one disturbing image.

I liked the movie as well and in regard to the big screen version of “Manhunter”… apparently the movie was already made some time ago as there was a copy on the shelf at the video store. I am going to make it a point to rent the next time I stop by there.

This would of course make the new big screen version a remake.
