I made shelves!

OK, this is fairly pathetic and lame, but I’m happy.

We bought this house recently, and moved in at the end of October. We love it. But there’s not much space in the kitchen. A friend was over last night and suggested we put some shelves on the wall next to the basement stairs. Just for canned goods and stuff.

So today, I bought lumber and hardware and stuff and spent the afternoon measuring and cutting and drilling and now I have a shelf unit hanging on my wall! It’s my first major project, and I’m so proud.

Mundane, I know. Pointless, sure. But I had to share it.

I want you to know that when you posted this, the consecutive subject thread names went:
“I made shelves!”
“Mundane Personal Accomplishments”

Made me smile. I thought about making breakfast this morning…

Will you build me a bookshelf, Dave? A little one that I can place next to my bed so that when I’m done with whatever I’m reading right before I go to sleep I won’t have to either get up to put it away or put it on the floor where my cockatiel can get it and chew it up?

The trouble with Sir Launcelot is by the time he comes riding up, you’ve already married King Arthur.

I need some shelves too. Some of those little corner jobbies. Lots of 'em. A bookshelf or two wouldn’t hurt. And a toybox.

Sooooo…you busy this winter?

Thank you for this dyslexic moment…

Just say no.

Loverock used smilies, and see where it got him?

Not pathetic and lame at all, especially if the shelves don’t fall off the wall the first time the garbage truck passes your house.

oh, i love making shelves! i do what you did w/ real lumber & wall anchors, leveling & plumbing everything. no packaged wire jobbies for me.

i put up at least one more set of shelves above the ones already in closets.

& a half dozen little shelves just at the side of the closets for shoes & purses.

i put up a shelf on one side of the undersink cabinet in each bath (all that wasted space!).

i even made one sliding-glass door closet all installed shelves except for short space for long stuff. it was a small bedroom & the closet shelves eliminated the need for any cabinet furniture.

shelves & pegboards everywhere in the storage/laundry room.

oh, i bet you had a wonderful time! congrats on finding the JOY OF SHELVES!!

I don’t need shelves…but I need the backing for some. Sounds strange I know. The house I live in is about 50 years old. There is a build-in book case which the back has fallen out of and all you can see is the wall for the bedroom. It’s too small to get between the wall and bookcase to make a new back so I’ll have to make one to fit each individual shelf. First I need to learn how to drive a nail in straight.
Congrats Dave…watch out Bob Villa
