I made teriyaki meatballs! Now I realize...

that I really, really don’t like teriyaki. As I figure teriyaki is by definition too sweet for my tastes, I guess I’ll rinse them off and slather them with barbeque sauce and call it a day.
(I made a double batch, too!)

I take ‘mistakes’ like that to friends’ houses…or parties…or something.
You could freeze them until you have an appropriate [DEL]victim[/DEL] chance.

Oh, I’ve rinsed off lots of stuff, including salad. You can rinse and use them with another sauce for yourself, or simply give them to someone who likes teriyaki. But didn’t you know what teriyaki tasted like before you made them?

I did, that’s what’s really dumb. But I was seduced by a recipe that includes a lot of things I like–soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, yumm! How can it go wrong?! I don’t know why on earth I thought I might like THIS teriyaki better than any other I’ve ever tasted, but I did.
They’d be okay on a toothpick at a buffet, maybe, but over rice they’re just too sweet and gooey. I ate a few and they were okay, but not good enough that I want to freeze them for a second meal later.
But with BBQ sauce, maybe…if not that, I’ll simmer them in tomato sauce for a few hours and serve them over spaghetti, I guess.

Outcome: Rinsed meatballs, simmered in spaghetti sauce for a while, and all is well. They still taste very faintly of teriyaki, but I think I’m the only one who notices it.
Next time I’ll skip the teriyaki step and just make my famous spaghetti sauce from the get-go.

I’ll be there.

We had it two nights running, and there is just enough left for you, my friend!
This experiment has also shown me that my kids find the idea of “meatball subs” to be just a little too out there for them. Meatballs go on spaghetti, mom!!

BBQ sauce is a good way to disguise the taste of teriyaki. BBQ meatball subs or over egg noodles is a go-to meal around our place when the wife is away.

Now I have to go home and make teriyaki meatballs.

I love teriyaki, but I don’t think I’d want my balls swimming in a pool of it.

Yuk.

I think some kind of Asian meatballs (made like the filling for potstickers, with ground pork, garlic, green onion, ginger…you know) maybe with just a little teryaki sauce, or sweet and sour sauce, would be good with rice or noodles.

I really dislike teriyaki. I tend to not like sweet meat.

Silly-shoulda made em with ground horse-much better!

I’d probably eat horse if it was cheaper than ground beef, and tasted the same. But I wouldn’t be able to tell the kids. I always look at different meats, but they don’t go on sale the way the usual suspects do. (I looked at rabbit the other day–over $30 for a little box!)
And after all this, can you believe I almost got sucked into making teriyaki chicken?! I don’t know what’s wrong with me…
