I spied what I thought to be a fairly minor, though a little confusing, error in the book Logic Made Easy by Bennett. It’s hard-cover and recently published, so I figured that there would be another printing at some point. I seemed to recall that some authors take note of the editing powers of the masses to update or correct further editions of their books; however, I was also quite confident that the error was mine and that I would be more of an annoyance than anything.
Well, I emailed the author anyway and apologized for the faux pas, and noted that she was probably correct, and then explained the mistake as I understood it. Today I received an email from her; she thanked me and noted that she appreciates a close reading of her texts. Additionally, she remarked that my remark may be noted in the footnotes of the (Norton) paperback & UK editions coming out this spring.
That totally made my day.
I am enjoying the book, by the way. I’m not finished; but so far I would recommend it. I never knew how badly I misunderstood Venn diagrams!
