I may have Muslim neighbors

They’re new, and we’ve not even met. But there were fireworks earlier tonight, and I couldn’t figure out why. And I’ve come to find out that last night was the end of Eid al-Adha, and that Muslims often celebrate the end with fireworks.

And let’s just say my town is not the type of place where you’d expect this sort of diversity.

This is, well, very interesting.

Why is that? Don’t like fireworks?

Yes…their holidays and religious rites are different …but quite interesting…my 18 year old is dating a muslim young man and we’ve had a lot of discussions about these things with him…and have learned a lot of things I never knew about Islam…some quite interesting…mostly it is just familial customs.

Also part of Eid is providing for the less fortunate. Where I live the local mosque ALWAYS makes a HUGE donation to the local food bank!

Plus there is a lot of great food to be had at the feasting that comes with Eid.

Your post was quite … tantalizing. But (IMHO) pointedly noncommittal. Do say more about the “interesting” parts, please. Interesting in a way that makes you glad she’s dating this guy? Enquiring minds want to know.

So?
Go introduce yourself.
Be a neighbor.
Snoop.
:p:D

I can relate. Our rural neighborhood is painfully white. If someone “different” moved in I’d be equally happy to see some diversity and worried about what some yahoos would probably do.

My neighbours are Muslim, and they had a party last night! The wife was cooking all day, and it smelled fantastic.

We do?

My block consists of Euro-Americans, Latin-Americans (is that the right term?), African-Americans, and one Indian family. The Indians are the only ones that feel like diversity to me. The others are pretty standard in this area.

I wish there were some Muslims. They sound like fun.

Only the ones who put butter on their porridge.

We have muslin curtains. Very diverse for these parts.

When I first met my new neighbors, I figured they were probably Muslim, given their names. Turns out the are Christian Arabs. Really, really, REALLY Christian. They must have about 15 statues of various Christian saints in their yard. Fortunately we have some mature landscaping between our houses.

Your neighbors might be trying too hard to show, “Hey, we’re not at all like those Muslims who become terrorists.”

To me, it’s generally a high level of intolerant religiosity that I find troublesome, rather than any particular religion.

My neighbors are muslim, nicest people in the world. I didn’t hear any partying last night. Maybe they’re reform.

Yeah I introduce myself to new neighbors all the time . I am Jewish and when my parents were one of first Jewish family to move into their new neighborhood people were all freaked out until they got know my parents and realize their fears was for no reason .

Ask them over for a drink.

I recommend getting to know them. They might invite you over for a meal, and if you’re lucky, they know how to cook and their cuisine is tasty.

I don’t know how general it is but they do in Dubai.
