I mega-it 'hit and run emo troll' posts

That’s “mega-pit.” Sheesh.

And another new user has signed on, dumped out two inflammatory, stupid, vaguely emo posts and logged out in a matter of five minutes.

I am so sick of these “I threw up all over my GF’s mother while buttfucking her dog at the senior prom because my supposed best friend put roofies in my spiked punch, what should I do?” posts. Can’t get inside the head of the trolls who get their woodies starting these kind of pointless, play-the-gullible-users posts.

I suggest that for further such posts, some old hand (or a moderator) post one and only one pertinent question, and further replies are voluntarily withheld until the OP comes back and establishes that they’re at least going to participate in the wank-fest.

I’m always interested in anti-troll tactics, but I admit to being a bit in the dark about the situation you describe. Is there a particular sub-board on which these Senior Prom Storytellers are plying their trollish trade, or does this happen all over the SDMB, or what?

I’m wondering, too, how a moderator could be sure that a particular OP wasn’t sincere. (Presumably the example you cite is an exaggeration…?)

These one-hit wonders post in any forum. Generally they get moved to IMHO if they’re asking for advice, or MPSIMS otherwise.

We can’t be, and usually give them the benefit of the doubt unless they’re blatantly trollish.

Fuck 'em. Anybody who dumps a post like that in their first time on a board is never going to be a contributing member to anything, Life included. Ban their asses immediately, lock the thread, and motor on.

Thanks, Colibri; that makes sense. If you lower the boom on some large number of initial posts, that would tend to put a chill on board participation (or so I’d guess).

Before I started spending a lot of my leisure time here, I used to put that time in on a board that (still) attracts a metric ton of trolls; my theory is that they congregate to boards that offer the use of response-buttons (“laugh,” “groan,” etc.). I see far less trolling here than on that Button-y board, anyway. (Not to discount the good effects of skillful moderation, of course. ^_^)

Still, the Barbarian raises an interesting question.

they’re funny and so are the replies.

I thought I was alone all these years.

You’re never alone on the internet.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

What kind of dog was it?
