A personal hero of mine, Del LaGrace Volcano was in my town last night, giving a talk/presentation of his work. He was on a speaking tour in Australia and had been presenting to large groups of people.
I was incredibly lucky, then, to be at a smaller gathering of about 50 people at my uni for his presentation. Even more so when the small group ended up having a really interesting discussion about issues related to his artwork after the presentation.
Not only that, but about 15 of us, Dr Del included, went and got food together afterward, to continue the discussion.
He took my photo (he’s a photographic artist with cult status who does a lot of portrait work) and expressed interest in my ideas, and autographed my copy of his book, and told me to email him.
And when I did, he responded the same day!
I’m so ecstatic and impressed to have met someone whose work has had a big impact on my life, and also to find out that he’s a really genuinely nice guy.
What a great experience!
