I might choose an elephant

But what should I feed her?

Hmmmmmm.

A Great-horned Owl.
And a Greyhound. Okay, two greyhounds.
Some Screech Owls and Burrowing Owls to keep down the bug population in my neighborhood. (Plus they’re just soooo darned cute!)
And some Bats. Big ones. The really, really big ugly ones. Great for scaring the heck out of the neighbor’s kids.
The Mockingbird that sings outside my window at 1:30 in the morning.
A wombat.
A zorse - half zebra, half horse). Beautiful chestnut/brown with black stripes - the shelter down the street has one from a circus that went bankrupt.
An orangutan.
A Sea lion.

Oh, let’s just make it easy:
The whole world is my backyard zoo, but the property taxes are outrageous.

Black panthers have always been my fantasy animal. But, any of the big cats would be good. Cougars are really cute with those big mascara lined eyes.

Owls and Hawks are my favorite birds. Had a hawk swoop down on a sparrow 5 feet from the edge of my patio. That was really cool. Well, not for the sparrow.

If someone else is doing the clean up, I’d also have horses, longhorn cattle, bison, and llamas.

I don’t know about water animals. It might be fun to ride a dolphin or killer whale unless they decided to take one of those 15 minutes dives.

Might also like a panda or koala, or some other rolly polly bear thing.

They are also quite Delicious!

I would like to have peacocks living in my yard.
One time, I was in the Staten Island Children’s Zoo, and they had an albino male peacock. I even had the pleasure of seeing him display his breathtaking tail to a hen. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. I would like to have him  and a few hens for him to show off to.

I have always been a fan of tigers, and if money, space and domestication were not an issue then I would definately have one. It would surely keep those pesky door to door salesmen at bay. (or provide a unique food source)

I’ve definatlivly got to agree with Rachelle on this one, at least about the Polar Bear. One of them would RULE! They’d be esspecially good for catching those pesky walruses that keep digging the radishes out of our garden.

polar bear, panda bear cub, (that hua mei, what a cutie) siberian tiger.

Cleanup? For horses? No way! Just give 'em a half acre drylot, and an acre to five (depending on your region) to feed off of, no cleanup necessary!

Oh, and you DON’T want a peacock, at least, not a male. Some people down the road have a few, and their call sounds like a woman yelling “Help!”, not something to wake up on a Saturday morning at 5 am to.

A guy further down has a lion, a tiger, and a bear. I camped out in the area once, before I knew he had them. Talk about shitting your pants, when you hear a lion roar pull you from sleep at 2 am.

We get foxes around here, they’re no picnic. I think someone’s tried to tame one, because I always see it in the vicinity of the same house. They must be feeding it.

We get coyotes, but the dogs scare them off. One time they got on the front porch, and their screaming kept us all up for a while, until we put the dog where she could see them and she barked up a storm. They took off right quick following that.

Oh my God I’m such a hick. When reading back my own post, my mind adopted a thick drawl.

Personally, I’d like a capuchin monkey, or a squirrel monkey. Maybe one of them thumb-sized monkeys they found in the Amazon recently. I’d also like a tame-from-birth squirrel, racoon, or ferret.

Wolves, snow leopards, ocelots, fire lizards and a dragon.

I have already decided that when I’m a multi-multi-millionaire, my dream home shall have a huge atrium. In this atrium, I shall have a large pond with lots of plants, birds, fish swimming about and… river otters. I don’t know what the zoning board will think, but it’d be pretty cool to sit in the atrium, drink some coffee and watch the otters frolic about.

A Slow Loris. I dont know the official name.
They are so cool. They move soooooo slooooow.

A cougar if I can keep him from eating the Loris.

A Galapagos Tortoise.

The fictional animals would be Garfield and Obie. (Come to think about it, I used to own a dog and cat like them!)

Joph, how did you steal mine?

Just one for me, Sea Otters.

Fantasy animal: a dragon or unicorn.

Real animal: any large cat, a panda bear, gorilla.

Good thing Busch Gardens is right down the street from me.
Oh yeah, I’d also like an Omni.

Hey - we seem to end up on these threads together talking about sloths and koala bears. I’ll be in Australia for most of December and will be sure to check them out.

Fantasy animal: The alien from Alien’s, as long as it dosent occasionally bite the heads off of house guests, and as long as it wont reproduce.

Real animal: River otters, medium sized jungle cats, like the Bengal Cat, or maybe an Ocelot or 2.

Eucalyptus trees were planted in south Florida many years ago. Now one of the state agencies is on a “seek and destroy” mission.

It seems like it would have made more sense to import a bunch of koala bears.

Forget it.

I don’t want Falkor or a capybara.
They are boring.
I really just want a dog.

I can’t have one, though- my appartment’s too small.

Domesticating and confining them would take all the joy out of it, but I think I’d love to do the Jane Goodall/Dian Fossey bit with the great apes in the jungles…

Then I’d also get to be around the giraffes and elephants, too.
