I might have drain bramage

It all started while reading a thread about math. Not only was I clueless about the answer I was very confused about the question.

Posting here and there over the last few weeks brought me into other threads that left me feeling a little less than stellar in the brain area.

Today I was looking at a thread in GD about things we can’t know directly. About half way into the first page I decided to stop and ask this question.

Am I dumb as a rock or do some of the posters here have giant brains encased in watermelon-sized heads?

I know I’m gonna get blasted but I don’t care, I have to go look up some Dennis miller / Dianetics type words so I can understand what I’m reading over there.

You are not dumb as a rock.

I am personally convinced we have some of the smartest people on this planet posting here. But none of them are smart in all of the areas this board covers.

All of us are here for the same reason you are. To learn, and to have fun.

If you were Dumb as a rock, you wouldn’t keep coming back and trying to learn.

So there’s no reason this thread has to be dunning you for not getting it. More likely it will become a well deserved appreciation thread for those posters that educate the rest of us.

Join the club, friend.

I read GQ and GD but rarely can (or feel competant enough) to contribute.

However, it is a great education! Maybe I can convince the local college to give some credit hours or something!

I think I’m pretty smart, but I’m nothing on some of the folks we’ve got here. The SDMB does have its fair share of idiots, but I don’t know that I’ve ever met anyone offline as who was as smart as the smartest people here seem. So don’t feel bad if some of the people here seem smarter than you.

Oh, and since you asked, I do in fact have a huge melon-like head.

Rocks are not sentient and therefore cannot have a measurable intelligence quotient. You do not appear to be a rock.

There is no documented evidence to support your theory of big brained watermelon headed people. These supposed “Melonheads” would also have to possess massive bodies to support the weight of their enormous craniums. Such a person could not just walk about in public without drawing a great of attention and would most likely be reclusive. The fact that no-one has ever seen a Melonhead would support the preceding argument. You might say that you’ve never seen me and therefore I do not exist save for my writing to this topic. I assure you that I am not possessed of a huge brain encased in a watermelon sized head.

Let me speculate for a moment…

If these Melonheads existed theirs would likely be a very secretive society with the internet providing an excellent medium for them to communicate via message boards, ICQ, and other internet tools such as IM. This seems preposterous indeed.

If these fictional Melonheads did exist and were discovered I believe that their first tactic would be to shed doubt and divert people’s attention elsewhere. Starting a number of threads relating to sex might serve their purposes as would debates on abortion or creation vs evolution.

BTW… have you seen the latest creation thread? It’s right here

This message board is a collective knowledge base, with a few idiotic things sprinkled in for good measure. Because of that, the board itself almost qualifies as one huge hunker-toad brain, of a sort. It can be intimidating to feel like it’s “you against the brain” but remember we are all just little neurons here that make up the message board. Many of us are specialized neurons. Wildest Bill, for example, while possibly not the sharpest knife in the drawer*, is highly specialized in talking about bowel movements. RTFirefly, on the other hand, is a highly regarded mathematician. By themselves, neither one of them could come up with the following knee-slaper, but working together in this wonderful community of collected intelligence we can get such gems as the following:

Q: What can a constipated mathematician do without his calculator?
A: Get a pencil and work it out.

Now where would we be without contributions from all the neurons, I ask you!

You don’t say much about yourself in your profile. Tell us what interests you and we’ll start talking about it. If it’s particularly controversial, some of us may never stop talking about it.

*

Yes but.

According to my new found information the reflection-correspondence theory:

You map things with your sensory organs into your brain. This knowledge has no a prori existence but gets developed over time and observed until it either becomes true or false. The problem seems to be that the knowledge can never be absolute. So you see the lack of documented evidence …

Hey Feynn will it hurt when my head grows ?

A couple of tylenol wouldn’t hurt, or would they?
