What happened? Please tell me it was a rerun! What did I miss?
I didn’t tape it, but, according to TVGuide, it was a repeat of Him.
The part with the bazooka … priceless.
Next new Buffy is 3/25 - Lies my parents told me
That bazooka scene was priceless. I didn’t see this episode when it first aired, so this was a welcome re-run.
Also classic was Xander and Spike’s complex plan to steal the jacket.
Can’t say I liked “Buffy Anne Summers as Mrs. Robinson,” but apart from that, it was very worthy.
I didn’t really like this episode when I first saw it (apart from the bazooka scene, of course), but on second viewing I enjoyed the fact that we (and the Scoobies) never discover the whys and hows of the power of the jacket. I like the implied idea of generations of Hellmouth weirdness and evil. And that scene with Spike, Xander, and the older brother is just chilling in its total banality. Little boxes of raisins. The collection of porcelain figurines. The upholstery. Ugh.
Did you notice how Spike took a moment to turn the angel figurine around so it wasn’t facing him?
Little touches that make a great show.
Simultaneously the worst and best episode of this season, in my opinion. At least this time I knew enough to change the channel before the painful “Dawn’s cheerleading tryout” scene. Contact embarassment overload…yikes.
Yes! And maybe I’m making it up but I thought he had a little moment with the angel sculpture by the front door. I can’t remember what those things are called right now. Sconce? Or is that what you stick candles in?
Spike turning that statue around always makes me think of Dru, punishing her dollies by turning them to the wall so they can’t watch the “fun”.
And I’ll second the “embarassment overload” on the cheerleading scene. The one in the hallway where Dawn’s trying to chat the guy up is pretty painful too. I HATE scenes that make me squirm like that. Ick!
Dawn’s embarrassing scenes; They hurt because the writing and acting are good, Whedon hits the “embarrasssment node” square on the head.
And kudos to Michelle Trachtenberg for her willingness to be a complete dolt, especially in the world of physical comedy. She did a great job of making Dawn’s scenes writhingly emabrrassing. I’m generally not a Dawn fan, but this episode worked for me.
Yeah, but I’m still mad at her for hacking up Buffy’s old cheerleading uniform. It was pretty damn inconsiderate to shred one of your sister’s last links to her pre-Slayer life. (Although shouldn’t Buffy have a cheerleading outfit from Hemery High, too? She was only a Razorback girl for about fifteen seconds.)
Although her stint as a Sunnydale cheerleader wasn’t “pre-Slayer.”
And may I just say, we’re all a little pathetic and desperate if we’re posting to yet another thread about an ep that was already thoroughly dissected when it first aired.
pathetic. pathetic!
yea for all of us buffy tragics!
i work when the new buffy and angel eps are on so i tape them. where i live b and a reruns are shown back to back on wednesday nights…so two buffs and two angels…ahhh…heaven
Not pathetic for me, I wasn’t able to catch this ep the first time around, either, so I’m soaking up all the comments you guys are making!
Guilty as charged.
I think Trachtenberg is a good actress. That the writers make her so annoying, doesn’t take away that. However, the cheerleading tryout (painfully embarrasing) didn’t work for me, since I remember how well she can dance, from OMWF. If she can move like that, cheerleading should not be a problem.
Her taking to that guy at schopol, though… arrgh. Painful memories from my early teens.
And yes. It sure is pathetic. Count me in.
They showed the cheerleading episode on FX this morning - same uniform.
I also thought Dawn’s inability to cheerlead didn’t make sense (but the hallway scene…cringe) we know from her fight scenes that she’s not uncoordinated (if wimpy, but not uncoordinated). And unless OMWF demon didn’t give her special dance powers, we know she can dance.
What’s next week?
In that hallway scene… Why did every single kid in the shot carry the same identical black shoulder bag? Is that actually done in school these days or was that some under-the-radar satire?
