Buffy 1/7

Did I miss something? No Buffy thread this week?

Oooooooookay.
Well, without SPOILERS:
I thought the first half was a bit boring and, well, whiney, but the end was extremely well put together.

There was nothing on next week’s episode either, so I can only guess if there will be an episode ornot, though it doesn’t seem likely.

Otherwise, I’ll have to leave it up to those who do those spoiler boxes to say the rest.

Great night!

I was really good. And of course the begining had to be whiney, the point of the episode was for the SIT’s to work through their doubts and stuff. They also finally hinted at the second slayer running around. Cool. I hope Faith comes in pretty soon.

There was a new Buffy tonight?

Faith is coming–have patience. She’ll be in the last five episodes of the season

I can’t say I saw a lot of working through doubts, though, amp. The SITs learned “Oh. So Buffy can kick ass.” Also, they may have learned to stop whining a little. But they haven’t learned to work on their own or as a team. I still don’t see them having any hope for the situation whatsoever. And I can easily see Dawn stirring up some more discontent and fear after her little revelation at the construction site, especially when she starts to think she’s an SIT herself.

They’ve learned that Buffy is willing to use unwitting people as bait if the situation calls for it. Okay, so now they know that a Slayer’s gotta do what a Slayer’s gotta do, but jeez. Yay for team building and trust, Buffy!

I liked the Thunderdome reference, but I thought the delivery was waaaay too serious. That bit deserved a little levity–some Season Three delivery would have totally saved it. And I really like Andrew and everything (How can you not love a character who brings the geekiness?) but he’s got one note (the geek reference) and he plays it loud. Either he provides vital information soon or I start rooting for the Bringers.

And Spike…(say it with me now, girls) awwwww. And I guess that’s really all we get to say this week, since he’s not exactly plot-boy just now. Anyone else think it would be a nice touch if those runes were permanent?

I think that Faith has to do her stint on “Angel” first before coming to “Buffy.” The rumor I heard was three eps on “Angel” and the last five eps on “Buffy.” So it may be a while before we see Faith.

Hmmmmm…notice how ** Juniper200** had that vital piece of spoilage hidden in the spoiler box??? There’s a reason for that feature, y’know…

Anyhoo…I thought it was a great episode. And wow, I’m really digging that Kennedy SIT. She’s got some great potential–especially if they continue the show with a new slayer! Now all I’m waiting is for them to break that sexual tension between Willow & her. Let’s get it on!

After learning why the First has found this to be a good time to bring on the apocolypse (Buffy screwing with the balance of nature by coming back to life, or whatever)…I have my own bit of speculation on how they’ll end the series:

Buffy will have to die–again, but this time for real. That’s obvious, I know. But I think that she’ll allow Spike to do the deed–which will make for a very emotional exit.

Giles was pretty good in this episode. It made me pull away from the “Giles is a manifestation of the first” theory…

ahem the Buffy thread from last night

kinda sucky episode. i was rooting for the vampire for awhile. he could have at least thinned out the herd a little, i hate those stupid junior slayers. even the kennedy one. she’s hot, but we already have dawn, who’s whined enough for a whole slew of slayers in training.

when did the scoobies start making with the telepathy?

the stupid eye of botox looked like a reject from that crappy dune movie.

i miss the old days when shit happened on buffy. watching the fx reruns is like watching a completely different program.

I felt like Buffy killing the Ubervamp was kinda Deus ex machina, only without the Deus. I mean, the vamp kicked her butt six ways from Sunday in the last ep. But now, because she’s had a Scooby Snack she all of a sudden takes him on and wins?! That felt pretty silly to me.

I think I spotted Eve as morphy right off the bat. We’re primed to look for stuff like that now. And didn’t Giles and Anya have some contact? Have we established if he’s with us or not?

Not clear how keeping the SIT around makes any sense unless they start training them. Right now they function mostly as bait or an anchor.

I give it a 6.

My disbelief was suspended when Buffy poked out UV’s eye, which (I bet) caused disorienting pain and impaired his vision, putting him at a disadvantage. Add that to fatigue from all the knocking-around, and possibly slim pickings (ever see it feed?). I can buy it.

I too was mystified by the 3-way “conference call”. Also, am I a nutcase or did Buffy’s “internal voiceover” not sound like her voice?

Might not belong in spoiler box as it deals with this weeks ep, but what the hey:

When the gang was in Buffy’s house around the middle of the episode, Giles was walking across the floor while saying something. While he was walking I was pretty sure I heard the floor squeak. I will verify tomorrow night when we re-watch.

Also, the FE has been working the Ubervamp pretty hard. When it’s not pounding on Buffy, it’s working over Spike…

Still, it felt sort of cheap: instead of Buffy proving her overall dominant strength, she got in a few lucky shots. And the telepathy thing, while perfectly reasonable in light of past seasons, was handled in a way that made it seem sloppy and akward: not to mention totally pointless. I mean, they could have had that conversation at any point normally! All that flashback for a “lead him to an abandoned lot” was pretty weak: this ep will NOT play well in reruns the way that old seasons’ “arc” episodes do.

Abandoned lot? I mean construction site. Same difference.

I’m getting tired of the rallying speeches. I know she needs to inspire, and I know she’s the heroine, but dang.

Beyond that, I thought the fight was a little overdone. She’s getting hammered by this fast, strong monster and then zipp!.

Meh. However, I’m eager to see what happens next…

I think it was kinda weak, frankly. There seems to be way too much filler and way too many convenient moments. The telepathy was lame and completely unnecessary, the eye was just out of left field, and after the ass-kicking Buff took from the UberVamp last time, the confidence and set-up-as-lesson just made no sense at all.

Two things I liked: Kennedy and the last scene. I also liked the way Spike just knew and believed that Buffy would save him.

Well, I’m willing to forgive a lot because there isn’t a whole lot else on TV worth my time.

Personally, I loved the telepathy bit. Not only was it cool, but it was the Scooby Gang actually working together like the old days. Yay!

They did a lot of cutaways during the ubervamp fight, but they made it clear it was still hammering Buff pretty much. She did it I think for two rerasons: 1) She would have to fight it sooner or later no matter what, and 2) She had to win and be seen doing so.

Nevertheless, the SITs are annoying the hell out of me. I hope they at least start to really train them.

OH! Like a comic book; The Slayer Corps!

Tee hee.

I had an idea, but I think considering the reason for the First’s arrival it wouldn’t be a good plan: “kill” all the SITs in the same way Buffy was first killed… a quick drowning, then a quick revival, thereby activating them all and creating an army of Slayers.

Have to start with Faith, though.

My reaction was “That’s your brilliant plan?” Sheesh, if they’re going to set up a cage grudge match with a killing machine uber-vamp, at least use the home field advantage. Set up booby traps. Have pits of cement made with holy water. Xander with the wrecking ball. Rocket launchers. Flame throwers. (They were able to get flame throwers for the mayor – they should be able to get more.) Their advantage over the uber-vamp was that it was not very intelligent. So duking it out mano a mano is just about the stupidest thing to do.

Okay, so maybe it would be more dramatic to have the vamp elude all the traps and then have Buffy decapitate it with barbed wire (and what do her hands look like afterwards?), but at least make it look like the team has some collective intelligence.

And yes, after all the whiney Dawn complaints from the last two seasons, why did Mutant Enemy think it would be a good move to stock up on whiney young teen females?

He still hasn’t touched anything.

I’m also wondering which death of Buffy’s brought the First back - it seems to me that it’s her first death (which brought about two slayers) was way more of an interruption in the slayer line than her second death was.
