But Kendra died forthwith.
I believe he was holding hands with Anya when they came back from the Eye of ???. I’ll double-check tonight.
This isn’t new from last night’s episode, but what’s with the community-college accents? Jesus. It’s not like there aren’t hot girls from England or the South who actually have the accent – there’s really no excuse for the awful fake ones.
“What’s that guv’nor? 'ave to kill a vampire? 'ere’s a good stake for 'is 'eart! Right-o! Pip pip!”
“Ah may be Suuuuuthern, but ah think the situation is rawht scary!”
Ugh.
(Otherwise the episode was OK. I hated all the whining, but I liked the scene with Anya and the demon ex-boyfriend, and Spike’s rescue.)
Did anyone else notice an unusual number of references to earlier episodes?
- First Buffy says, “welcome to the hellmouth” (The title of the first episode)
- Then someone says something about having to bear the “weight of the world” (the title of another episode)
- Buffy also says “here endeth the lesson” a quote from Spike in the episode “Fool for Love”
Any idea what this means? Or am I just crazy and imagining things?
joshmaker, my coworker noticed the same thing re quotes from previous episodes. I didn’t, but she’s a Major Buffy Geek ™ and I came late to the fold.
I’m new to this messge board, and I’m sure my Buffy knowledge isn’t as great as most of the people here, but I have a question.
If the First can only take the form of dead people, as it did with Eve, then how is it constantly appearing to Spike in the form of Buffy? Is it because she technically has died a few times, or am I missing something?
Thanks
Yes, kurtulmak. Buffy has died before.
I noticed that too, joshmaker. Maybe they’ll start slipping them in every episode until the final one, as a way of saying “Goodbye, and fangs for the memories.”
Whoops, forgot to say, as long as we’re whining about the SIT’s, why isn’t there an Asian one? I mean, hello, how much of the world’s population do Asians represent? A whole hunk? That’s what I thought. Statistically, it doesn’t make any sense. If I wanted to completely geek out, I could break down how many Slayers we’ve met on the show (16), how many have been black (3) and how many have been asian/from India/Middle-Eastern (2, which leaves 11 honkies). But I’m not that sad. Yet.

plot-spoiler to follow:
unconfirmed rumours are placing Giles in Hong Kong to pick up an Asian SITlater during the season
The first appears as those who “have died” not “are dead”. Tense is everything in the Buffyverse.
Yes, but I’m talking more about his attitude. In the last episode he was so dreary & defeated, he seemed like a mouthpiece for The First. At least in this episode he was more active in finding a way to defeat The First. That’s why I’m leaning towards him being “real” Giles.
But, I think the only way I’ll be utterly convinced is when we finally find out how he eluded death in that cliff-hanger several weeks ago…
