I missed my exam this morning.

I had a final exam this morning, but I thought that the exam was supposed to be tomorrow, on Wednesday. I only realized my mistake when a classmate called me when I was about to miss my second exam of the day. I have probably read the exam schedule over a dozen times during the last two weeks, but I seem to have always read the “Tuesday” as “Wednesday”. I have emailed the dean and the professor of the class, but I’m not sure if I can have a makeup exam. If I can’t take the exam, then I will have failed my first class ever.

If you’ve been a good student all semester, there’s a chance your professor will work with you. It happened to me way back when - I talked to my prof and she allowed me to take the exam in her office while she graded papers. If, on the other hand, you’ve been a slacker and a wiseguy, probably not.

That’s too bad. I hope it works out.

This exact thing happened to me once. Luckily for me, the professor allowed me to retake the final with another section. It’s a weird type of brain fart isn’t it?

As a professor myself now, I would let you take it over. I probably wouldn’t be happy about it, but I’d do it.

Wait, this isn’t a dream thread?

o man bad college memories in here

Nightmare, not dream.

I hope they allow you to take a make up, but if they do, make sure you don’t show up for the exam naked.

This happened to me too. It was one of my biggest OMFG moments of my undergraduate career.

I mixed up the exam times of two different classes and figured it out just as the first exam was ending. I came in at the very end and was trying really hard not to panic because I was just so upset that I could have been THIS STUPID…

My professor was very understanding and let me take the test in her office the next day. As she put it, “We all have our bad days, and it was clear you were having yours”

And don’t forget to bring a #2 pencil.

Seriously, I feel bad this happened and hope you’re allowed to make the exam up.

This happened to me with my p chem class. I was studying for the test, i thought happening the next day, got to the end of my notebook and saw that it was happening at that moment. Ran to the test room with 30 minutes left in the 2 hour exam and explained what happened. The fucker said too bad, so sad and told me I better get started as there was only 20 odd minutes left. I took the test and actually did OK, got a B on the test. I was wired.

Got there late because I got the morning and afternoon sessions mixed.

Tried to calm down.
Went into a trance and didn’t wake until the 20 minute warning bell.
Tried to complete the exam in 20 minutes

Failed the exam.

Had to change subjects.

Failed new subjects.

Got thrown out.

Not to be down or anything, but it was a bit of a bummer.

Awesome story! Here’s mine - as a freshman in college, I was, shall we say, lackadaisical about attending class and doing required reading. I was just woefully undisciplined, not stupid or uninterested: when I bothered to attend class I was pretty engaged, and sometimes I even read things in the textbooks that were not assigned, just because I was curious. One day, I had a poli sci class. At first I wasn’t going to attend, but I thought about it and realized I had skipped the last class or two, so I figured I’d better make an appearance.

You guessed it - I walked in and we were having a mid-term exam. I had not read the assigned material at all, much less studied it. But I had read other chapters of our book, and from what I had learned I managed to cobble together a response to the test questions. I got a B+.

All the best to the OP. Let us know if things work out.

Well, that’s better than how a guy I knew missed his final:
Playing Blades of Steel on the NES.

Followed by the line: “Dudeman, I spaced my econ final!” We didn’t let him forget that one.

It could be worse. I had an exam in university where I arrived, and could think of nothing. I handed in a blank book.

Yeah, I switched to electronics shortly thereafter.

Well, good news. I’m taking a newly written version of the exam early next semester, as the professor will not be able to write a new version before the end of the semester. Both the dean and professor were quite nice about it.

Yay! Glad to hear it.

Calendar software is your friend.

I’m glad. Professors (and Deans) of the “we all have our bad days” stripe are way better than the hard asses who think you should have made the test despite being in labor with your first child.

I had a professor who offered everyone the choice of accepting a 0 on a missed exam, or enduring a 90 minute oral examination on the coverage topics, administered by the professor himself, in his office.

I don’t know about the final, but anecdotally, several people just accepted the 0 on the midterms (15% of your final grade or something).

EDIT: In retrospect, I guess the offer for the final would have been a 3 hour oral examination. Gaah!

When I was a Freshman, I lost my virginity the night before my 8 a.m. Calculus final. No sleep, no studying. I got to the test late, but still aced it. Good thing math was my best subject.
