So I am sitting on the computer around 12:30 and I get an email from the TA “hey we already started the exam (at 12) why aren’t you here?” and I am flipping out oh no how could I get the day wrong I am so irresponsible. So I rush over to the exam, I live on campus so it takes like 5 minutes, but it is in a different building than normal class, and I spend like 20 minutes just looking for the right room. And finally I get there and finish the exam in a little over an hour (for the exams are too easy. we have 3 hours for it) But now I realize I made a dumb mistake, of putting lügte as the imperfect of lügen, when it is log. It wouldn’t be so bad, except there was an example of a sentence given, and log was used in it. If I had just followed that example, I woulc have gotten it right. But I was still so shaken from realizing I had almost missed the exam, I was not thinking straight. Now the teacher will think I am dumb alas. but I did pretty great on the rest of the exam. so it won’t matter too much.
At least you made it to the exam. My husband found out that his calculus exam was TODAY when one of his classmates came into the student lounge and asked how he did just as it was finishing.
(Luckily, the one of the TAs had nothing better to do and watched them (that’s him and his three other buddies that he was playing cards with) write for the next three hours. They decided based on their grades that they were not cheating.)
That is pretty much my standard stress dream come to life, yikes!
Yikes indeed. Hope your grade is great, despite the stressful realization and the late arrival!
Same here, but with added lack of trousers.
Oh man, this. Always this. And for some reason I’ve always been out of school for a month so I have no clue what the material is. And I’m trying to play it cool like I had planned to come to school with no pants on.
I actually showed up for my final last week to find the classroom door locked and lights off and nobody in sight. Talk about a nightmare come to life! :smack:
Thankfully, the teacher showed up 10 minutes later to unlock the door, and the rest of the students (all later than usual for some inexplicable reason) shortly followed.
I messed up my exam schedule one year too - I showed up for my geology final at the right time and place, but it had been held the day before. I was very lucky to catch the professor while he was still in town and he let me take the exam in the department conference room.
I graduated from college in 1984 and I still have that “oh crap I missed my final exam” dream, even though it turned out OK in the end IRL.
God, just reading this thread is probably going to trigger one of these nightmares. Every time I stop having them we get a new round of co-op students at work who chat about their classes and stir it up again.
Obligatory xkcd link.
I almost missed an exam. I set two alarms (TWO!) and neither of them went off that day. I woke up late and had a 50 minute commute. I ended up being twenty minutes late but luckily for me the teacher was 25.
I walked four miles in the snow to get to my exam (driveway had glaciated), then I found out afternoon classes were canceled, then I went “GODDAMMIT”, then everybody else in the library looked at me.
I showed up for a physics final a day early. I thought maybe they had switched rooms when I showed up and nobody was there. I panicked for a good hour or so before I double checked the finals schedule.
Same here, but lacking the horrifying knowledge that I haven’t attended a single lecture.
Ooooh, so sorry, PSXer. At least you could finish the exam in time.
I haven’t had to take an exam in ages (more than 20 years), but still periodically (every year or two) have similar dreams. Sometimes I’m going back to school and have to re-take my doctoral exams; sometimes it’s an individual class situation and I’m just not prepared for the test.
So - wie war es? Hast gut gemacht?
(Sloppy street kinda German for So - how was it? D’ye do okay?)
Yes. And I always have to pee so bad I can’t think straight.
Oh, and it was always the German final.
I once showed up at the correct time for a final in a class I hadn’t attended for the last three weeks of class. No one was there. I realized that the professor had probably rescheduled the exam and I didn’t know about it because I wasn’t there.
Fortunately the rescheduling was for an hour later, so all that happened was I had an extra hour to study (and quietly panic).
For sure. Makes me relieved I don’t have any final exams this year, just papers.
I’m 234 days (and counting) late for a final exam. Since the course is only offered once a year, I get to wait until the next exam period to re-take it. Yes, my school is retarded. No, there’s not much hope of me actually remembering any of the material. Should be fun.
I have a good excuse, though. Iceland exploded while I was in England.
It worked out fine because I am so good at German I finished the test in just over an hour, which I had 2 hours for after showing up late.
The Fates just don’t want me to be able to take German exams.
First semester of German I woke up at 8:00 for an 8:00 exam.
Second semester, I went to the building I thought the exam was (I had the name of the building right, but it turned out the building I thought was named that was not named that.) So I wandered around panicked for a few minutes and then I saw someone in my class, and followed him into the exam. A little worry, but at least I was on time. Now I am in third semester and this happens. Hopefully better luck next semester.
