I’ve only played No limit Holdem once before at home. Is there a “simple to learn and follow strategy” that will give me a shot of being around at the end? There will be 28 people with a $60.00 ONE time buy (no rebuys). The top five places will pay and the house (my friend Dave) will be taking five dollars per person as his rake (but that also pays for all the Pizza. Jumbo Tiger shrimp and beer you can eat and drink). Also, I deal like a six year old (you know holding the deck in one hand and just “shuffling” the cards one in front of the other) and he is convinced that his friends from work are going to kick my ass.
Fold low starting hands.
How experienced is everyone else? If nobody else is very experienced, be extremely aggressive and somewhat loose at the start. Raise big when you’ve got good cards pre-flop and after the flop, raise big when you’ve got mediocre cards pre-flop and after the flop. Generally, new players won’t always recognize the value of their own hand and can be scared off this way.
Be sure to stop playing recklessly as the game goes on, as people will catch on and start destroying you.
If the other people are fairly experienced players, then ignore that advice.
Buy low, sell high.
Oh… wait.
