I have some lovely Misti Alpaca chunky weight yarn in a wonderful green that I want to use for a scarf for myself. It needs to be a really easy pattern that I can remember and do without a pattern while on a plane, train, etc. (We’re leaving on Friday on vacation.) So no cabling, lace (well, wouldn’t do lace with chunky anyway!), etc.
I’ve done 1x1 ribbing, 3x3 ribbing, garter stitch, and a cool k1 YO k2tog pattern in the past, all of which I like. But I’d like to do something different this time. Can anyone suggest something on that level of difficulty? At the moment I’m thinking maybe a condo (?) stitch which appears to be all knitted but alternating large and small needles between each row. I’d love to hear some other ideas too though so I have something to choose from!
The k1 YO k2tog scarf - was it like this, or did it make lacy holes?
Another one that would be neat is the linen or half-linen stitch: wolfandturtle.net - This website is for sale! - wolfandturtle Resources and Information. - it makes beautiful fabric.
But honestly? What I would do is go to Ravelry and search for free patterns by yarn weight and scarf. You’ll come up with a ton of patterns and pictures and you’ll be able to choose the one that is perfect for your trip!
Yes. That’s exactly where I got the pattern too.
That’s neat too.
I’ll check out Ravelry too. Thanks.
Here’s another one.
I found it through Ravelry, searching for Misti Alpaca Chunky yarn and then looking at patterns that used it.
Or this one…
Or this one…
Or this…(probably looks better if the yarn is variegated as in the picture).
I’m sure there lots are more…
Knitting (and other handicrafts) threads go in Cafe Society – let me move this over there for you.

Mistake Stitch Rib makes nice scarves.
It’s “K3, P1,” but offset. It works well with bulky yarn and has nice texture and it’s reversible. (One sided scarves bother me.)
I do not knit, but I live surrounded by knitters. K1P1 (knit one, purl one, as far as I know) seems to be a start, but I hear tell that a knitted row followed by a purl row keeps the edges from curling in. Which may be what K1P1 said.
All I know is that my daughter the other evening presented me with a bunch of recently-unknitted yarn and I spent only an hour balling it. Grandma knew enough to keep me supplied with Morgan Davis and Lawrence Welk. Daughter did not.
Check out the handsome and simple One Row Scarf.
