I really, really suck at gift giving. As such, hopefully I can get some ideas here!
I have an older couple to buy for (neighbors). Something inexpensive ($20 to $25). This really shouldn’t be so hard, but it is
I have another neighbor who is much older. I figure she’d also like the same or similar to whatever I get the couple.
Lastly, my Landlord got me a bottle of wine last year (first year there, prior Landlords never got me anything, which is how it should be). Any ideas for him?
For the older couples I work with, I’m giving them homemade blueberry muffins and I’m going to make lemon curd to go with it. I can cut the fat and oil a bit in the muffins, which is nice for folks who may be on special diets.
For my same-age pals, all of whom are in the same boat financially as me (named “The Working Poor”, heh) I’m putting together bags of groceries that I’ve accumulated recently with really good coupon deals–soup mixes, cookie dough, canned stuff, anything I’ve gotten nearly free. If I have some cash left, I’m going to make some Irish cream too. Mmmm!
I do groceries for my adult sons too. One of them isn’t much of a cook, so he will be getting a couple of his favorite mom-food recipes along with ingredients to make them. The other one IS a cook, so will be getting more specialty items–raw milk cheese, exotic spices, etc.
Hmmm. Most of my gifts are food-oriented. But it’s hard to buy for adults who don’t need “stuff.”
I found these beautiful bookmarks that I’m completely lusting after, but I can’t justify buying them for myself and I don’t have anyone on my list that would want them either. I’m certain they’d make a great gift for somebody out there!
I am considered by many that know me as being an excellent gift giver :). I am if I do say so myself.
However, I have to know the person.
For people I don’t know…liquor is risky but good. Its risky because they may not drink or may not drink what you buy them. It can be good because it is so risky…people don’t buy liquor for others they don’t really know because they may not drink or like what you buy. Porno fits in this as well.
Since they are neighbors, you have to see them doing stuff. Do they BBQ on their deck alot? Ideas… Do they futz in their flower garden alot? Ideas…
I’m going to join the homemade consumbables bandwagon.
We’ve been playing around with hand dipping chocolates for a few years now. They always go over well. This year, I’m going to also add chocolate dipped tangerine slices. I tested out a few, and, well, yum.
A small box, wrapped in a bright bow, and taking the time to walk next door to deliver it and chat a bit.
