I need more energy. My body is exhausted all of the time. I tried more exercise, that just made me more exhausted. What can I do? What vitamins can I take? What sleeping rituals can get accustom too? Does stretching, meditation or power bars help?
I know, I know… “see a doctor“, or “it could be something serious”, I am looking into all of that as you’re reading this. I can’t wait a month for my doctor to see me to get started with the treatment. I just want to take on little steps to help myself before me appointment, and perhaps it will be enough. I looked on the net but all the sites I found were commercial.
I’ve been like this my whole life. I do have depression, and it’s being treated (I know some vitamins can’t be taken with certain anti-depressants). I’m starting to think if, instead of working on my depression to help my tiredness/laziness, I could work on my tiredness/laziness to aid in my fight towards depression… and may get better results.
I thank you all for your time… It’s great to have free insight on these matters and I appreciate it
What “more exercise” have you tried? Running is supposed to be great for depression. If you haven’t tried that, give it a whirl. Usually people who lack energy are people who don’t exercise. Exercise should energize your body. I believe that when you exercise, your heart rate goes up, your blood volume to the cells increases, and this oxygenates your body, giving you more “energy.”
I didn’t know some vitamins are contraindicated for depression. In fact years ago I read that the B vitamins may help. I haven’t read anything about that lately. I don’t know if vitamins should not be mixed with any medicine you are taking. After all, vitamins are essential for life, so how can they be contraindicated?
Stretching and energy bars won’t help. But meditation may help, if you give yourself some quiet time with no distractions. I’m not into these yoga-type meditations, but advocates say they can be beneficial.

You were right about the vitamins, I think I meant to include “erbal suplements” along with vitamines.
As far as running went, that’s exactly how I excersiced. I did it for about a month. Nothing changed.
Stay away from herbal supplements unless you have done your homework. There are many out there that are dangerous for everyone. I don’t know if you live in the USA, but here in the good ole USA, the FDA is powerless to regulate supplements unless it can establish that a supplement causes harm. Just the opposite of drugs. (The power of lobbies cannot be underestimated.)
My recommendation is to give running another try. Start out easy at first and build up.
Nutrition could certainly be a factor. Have you thought about eating smaller meals and eating them more frequently. I have a friend that eats 5 meals a day.
Are there particular times during the day when you feel more tired? What are your sleep habits? Believe it or not, some people actually feel more energized with less sleep. Some people require the typical 7 or 8 hours while some people function better with 5 to 6. Are you able to nap during the day? Sometimes just closing your eyes and relaxing for 10 or 15 minutes could give you an energy boost.
Do you worry or stress about something? Anxiety and depression can drain you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Exercise could be helpful but it would be a good idea to get a good physical before you start an intense work out routine.
What about caffiene? While this can give you a temporary boost, it could also cause a significant sinking spell.
I don’t know what your work is like. Variety might be good for you.
Most people feel fatigued at some points but one should not feel this way all of the time. I hope you can find a way to feel better. I suggest that you eat healthy foods and consider a multi vitimin, maybe an iron supplement. However, if you are taking other prescribed stuff, break off a phone call to your doctor and your pharmacist. They should be able to give you pertinent info about what should or should not be mixed. If you are currently taking prescribed medicines that don’t work, ask your doctor to prescribe something different. Sometimes our systems get uncooperative with medications that we take over a period of time.
At any rate, I hope you feel better and I strongly encourage you to get a complete physical. You might consider seeing another doctor. I mean you said you have felt this way your entire life so maybe you should at least try a second opinion…or maybe you have already. Anyway, good luck.
