I have a Dell Latitude D600. Not a great computer, but it’s light enough for my uses and thus far has been a faithful companion. Recently, the little round rubber things on the bottom have…fallen off. The glue, apparently, has lost its stickiness, and I’m now down to one little non-slide rubber pad thing.
This is annoying, becuase it means my laptop now is much more likely to slide around on a desk or something, and I’m fairly certain the tiny amount they raise it off the table is good for the ventilation as well.
Does anyone know if computer stores or anywhere might sell replacement…foot-things for laptops? If not, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could replace them with?
Hardware and home-furnishing stores (and the similar departments in KMart, etc.) carry quite an array of rubber and plastic stick-on buttons and squares that people stick onto furniture legs and bottoms to stop the furniture skidding around. There are also flat stick-on anti-skid devices, which are stuck on stair treads to stop people sliding, or on the bottoms of rugs to stop the rugs sliding. You might want to test just one stick-on first, to make sure the adhesive is compatible with the plastic of your laptop.
One of the rubber feet on my mom’s new scanner/printer broke off in the box, so we used a little round sticky-backed piece of cork (she has a couple sheets of these things). Not sure how much slide-resistance cork has though.
Is it still under warranty? Dell will replace the rubber feet if you ask (though I think they prefer it if you piggyback them onto another repair order to save on shipping).
The day I bought my Titanium PowerBook, I bought a Podium Pad. It cost 3 1/2 years ago what it costs right now- $ 29.95. It has those wonderful uuber-sticky feet, AND allows for several adjustable angles of reach. Truly saves wrist strain and keeps the CPU cool.
