I need some advice - Lawyers please read

I may be interested in law as a career. Can anyone offer some advice on where to find out some more information about this profession? I’m hesitant to walk into an office and ask to speak with someone. I know they are busy, and that they usually get paid for their time. Thanks!

This is not the right forum for such questions. You should have posted it in IMHO. No biggie, just pointing out where it should go.

If you peruse IMHO you will quickly notice two threads that roughly cover the ground you are interested in:
Going to law school after working for some years and
Is law school worth the $$/work?. Notice that these threads have more descriptive titles than this one, and as a consequence have attracted more replies. In the past there have been more of those threads.

I hope this helps. I’ll send you my declaration for the time spent on this post.

Does anyone in your family or friends know a lawyer? Most of us are willing to make some time to talk with people, but an introduction does help.

If there is a law school near you, call the Career Center and explain your problem. They may have lawyers willing to be contacted to talk to people (my law school occaisionally gives my name to students or potential students). Plus they may have a list of books you can read.

You should know that the practice of law varies a great deal depending on what type of law, what size firm, and even geographic location, so don’t think that by talking to a solo privale practictioner that you’ll know everything about the career.

Me? I love the law, and I’m practicing exactly how, where and what I want, so I’m a happy camper, yes I am.

Okay, so I’m at work before nine am on a Saturday, and I’m a bit rummy. But usually, I love my job.

Hey ChronosGF,

Currently, I’m an Engineer with the US Air Force (BS in E.E.). However, I find law a particularly fascinating subject because of one thing: guns. I try my best to follow gun laws, concealed carry, gun ownership, etc. Even as an Engineer, I deal with international law on a daily basis (SOFA agreements, 1391s, “Permissions to Act”, etc.), but this stuff fascinates me.

My point? Find something you are personally passionate about, and follow that path. Talk to a lawyer about getting into law school, but that personal passion will keep you focused. Let something you find faith in drive you into the legal profession . .

IMHO, lawyers are only needed when someone acts in a certain way. They are secondary to life, and only act because of it. Yet, the law governs the way we act. Ain’t that a kick in the pants?

Bus seriously, if you want to advocate a particular subject, it may lead you to ‘bigger, better, and brighter. . .’.

Tripler
And yep, I’m passionate about guns, and who can/should have them.
