I need some advice on financial aid

I’m going back to school this semester (doing well so far) for my second degree but I wasn’t able to get financia aid. I know (period) I’ll be able to get the money if I can’t get aid, but I’d really like some scholarships. I’ve always been a good student. I will be majoring in business. Does anyone have some good advice on scholarships? Good places to look?

The first place to look is obviously the Financial Aid Office, the second place is to check out any support organizations attached to the insitution you are applying to. I my case I work at a small technical college, and the "Such and such institution Foundation office " is just a few doors away from the Student Services office. Their main purpose is to distribute grants and loans made by private parties.

If you are a displaced worker hit up what ever agency your state has for unemployment even if Y,u are not unemployed. In Wisconsin that would put you into the Department of Workforce Development, which is far bigger that just unemployment. It involves displaced workers, those with special needs and even those trying to start up small businesses.

I would also hit any veteran services if you qualify. Even if you don’t get anywhere with the Vet Admn, there are a lot of other vet organizations that might be able to help you.

Do not become a victim of what used to be called the “Bra syndrome.” Just because you find one thing doesn’t mean you should stop looking for another. (I know, sexist, it was a term from the 70’s, but I think it gets the point across and it was the best I could think of at this moment.)

As this is a second degree you might also look into any opportunities in employment at the institution itself.
No guarantees, and most of these grants are small, but they can add up.

Hope this is of some use.

I’ve found that Fastweb.com is the best site I’ve come across for scholarship searching… It’s from the same people of Monster.com. Definitely worth a checkout.
