Scholarships for students already in college

Are there any resources out there for scholarships and other such funding for undergraduates who are already in college? There are plenty available for high school students and such, and quite a few for graduate students, but I wouldn’t know where to start looking for concurrent students.

Try at your financial aid office and especially at your alumni association.

It sure can’t hurt to inquire. It was nearly 50 years ago, but I got a half scholarship and half loan for my fourth (but not last) year of college after working at a full-time job at the university and being a part-time (about 4/5 time, in fact) student for three years. Imagine that a full year at an Ivy cost $1000! I might have been able to renew it for the fifth year, but I got a TA-ship.

Absolutely go to your college’s financial aid office. They may very likely have both scholarships and other forms of aid, such as low-interest student loans, that can be applied for at any time during one’s academic career.

The following is my personal experience being a student at a private University in Texas:

The school offers different scholarships for first time freshman and transfer students. If you transfer and meet the requirements, you get the scholarship. There are also other merit-based scholarships that you can apply for each semester. Need-based scholarships can become available to you if your need changes.

For example, since I turned 24 this year, I became eligible for the Pell Grant (Federal aid) as well as a need-based University scholarship, in addition to my Texas Equalization Grant and Stafford loans. The college began picking up the tab for my books this semester, the second of my junior year.

Also, each department has funds for scholarships. These are, more or less, faculty choice. When I was in junior college, a fellow dropped out after the fall semester and I was given “his” drama scholarship. I paid my own way that fall, and the school paid my way the next spring.

At ETBU, when you turn in your FAFSA every year, the FinAid department applies you for every available scholarship. Sometimes an endowed one becomes available and that money is awarded to you, even if you’ve never had it before.

Bottom line: yes, it’s possible from several different angles.
