I need some responsibility...

For when I apply to the fire department.

I was thinking of applying to work with disabled people, but I work out of town (4th yr. electrician) so unless I can get some major flexibility in my shifts, it’s out. I’m 22 fyi.

I already volunteer with St. John Ambulance, volunteered driving people who drank too much home during the holidays, bought a house, and yeah I just feel I haven’t done anything with SIGNIFICANT personal liability/responsibility. I want a good solid resume. Working with disabled people would be good in my opinion because it needs a responsible person to do and I am patient and understanding and would be good for the job.

I’d most likely be looking for something volunteer because that would most likely have the flexibility I need.
Any ideas?

How old of a chap are ya? No, wait, that doesn’t matter. Don’t be in such a bloody rush, soon enough you’ll have all the responsibility you can stomach. I’ve been in the fire business 13 years, and generally speaking, all the responsibility it takes to join is never having been arrested or convicted of a crime, and finishing high school (and some college, depending on the department).

If you’re looking for hints at all, volunteer down at the firehouse to do some community minded things, it gets your face noticed, and you get to know the guys, which will help you in the long run.
