I am looking for a car media player/radio with a particular functionality. I want one that will work with a reasonably large file library. It’s not widely known, but most car media players are limited to playing a few hundred tracks – the largest I’ve found plays 800 tracks. Some play as few as 500. Even if your source has 15,000 tracks, like my iPod, the player can only see 500-800 of them.
I’m shopping for a player that will do this, and I can’t find the right combination of search terms to find one.
Why don’t just call Crutchfield and ask them? They not only sell every head unit under the sun, they also have knowledgeable sales and technical support people available by phone 7 days a week. You don’t have to buy it from them but their prices tend to be very competitive and they can walk you through questions about installation as well.
My current car has an iPod dock. Unfortunately, rather than let iTunes run the iPod, it just uses the iPod as an external drive, and it’s own software to process everything. So an iPod is treated exactly the same as a flash drive – no matter how many tracks are on it, the car stereo will only “see” … can’t remember at the moment if it’s 6 or 7 hundred tracks.
