I need to describe the meal I just had...

Just got home from a loooong motorcycle ride, covered in grit and sweat. I was starving to the point of headache, but showered first and put on clean PJs.

I had a loaf of italian bread in the fridge. I put 5 slices in my toaster oven, then put the frying pan on the range and set to 5.

Once warm, I plopped on a good helping of butter (between 3 and 15 tablespoons), and reduced the heat to 3.

Once that melted, I cracked in two eggs, careful to keep the yolks whole.

I then heartily sprinkled black pepper on both eggs and covered.

After a few minutes the toaster oven popped and I lathered all 5 pieces with butter.

I then uncovered the eggs, noting they looked good, and slid them on my dish and added between a pinch or a bushel of table salt.

My God! That was the best meal I have ever had! The bread was buttery, but the edges still chewy. The eggs were runny, but oh so peppery! and salty!

I think I made food porn.

Time for Ken Burns’ Brooklyn Bridge on Netflix.

What a great day!

Nicely cooked eggs + good bread + butter is one of those very classic dishes that can be so much more as a whole than the simple ingredients. Definitely one of my favorite dishes. Add in a dessert of a nice documentary, and whoa - I’d be as giddy as you are.

Mmm…that sounds like a great ending to a great day!
Slainte!

The only thing that would have made that better is bacon.

Between 3 and 15 tablespoons of butter for the eggs? I should think there would have been more than two eggs.

Isn’t 15 tablespoons of butter almost two standard sticks? I think I’d notice using half a stick versus two sticks…

…maybe it’s a typo and should have read “between 3 and 5 tablespoons”… (for when too much butter is hardly enough).

I see toast as a vehicle for butter and the best eggs I ever had (these were scrambled and brought to me in bed) were swimming in butter. Good eggs from happy chickens help.

Pssst… I was trying to exaggerate and bring humor to my post.

OK, whew! That much melted butter could be a beverage, it was so much! The Italian bread is what ‘made’ the meal, nom nom.

I’m more concerned about the amount of table salt used (between a pinch and a bushel).
mmm

He gave it away when he said

Humor: get it? It was to emphasize his enthusiasm and the yumm-icity of the dish.

Pretty literal-minded group today…

Now I’m hungry.

The OP head-faked me. I thought he was going to fry the eggs kind of firm and make sandwiches. Mmmm.

But still . . . mmmm.

Guys, I suck at humor, but I do make an incredible egg dish (if butter, salt and italian bread are around).

Thank you, ThelmaLou

I used a whole lota butter and a whole lotta salt and it tasted great.

Was getting home from a bike run and putting on your PJ’s part of the exaggeration? Because that’s the part where you lost me.

Everybody knows eggs taste better when cooked in sleepwear. Sheesh!

I recently made the busted, but soft yolk, into an artform. Just turned, egg, liquid yolked, yolk side up sandwich- topped with a recently, fresh canned, Thai dragon peppers and garlic sauce or paste, slathered on and topped with a Kraft slice. I served it on buttered toast with a large and totally engulfing slice of fresh bonny best Tomato. A Crisp, rich, and gushing wet sandwich from the butter, yolk, and tomatoes, and the vinegary pepper and garlic paste. (salt and pepper seasoned).

normally, if I could afford the meat, i would add bacon or perhaps ham.

No. Nothing is better than getting riding gear off, and putting clean, comfortable clothes on. Although I could Penthouse it up a bit if you’d like…

"Dear Penthouse,

You won’t believe what happened to me recently after a biking adventure…"
