I need to find a Laptop Mount

My boss wants me to find her a laptop stand/mount which will allow her to use her laptop while she is riding her exercise bike.

Most of the mounts I’ve been able to find so far are designed for autos, and the base of the stand needs to be drilled into the floor. This probably won’t work for her.

I’ve found a few other free-standing units that are made to be attached to tripods, but this also is not ideal because there is not that much floor space around the bike (there is some), and she would like the laptop to be able to sit in front of her as she is on it, so I’m thinking it needs some kind of adjustable arm. Something like one of these could work (See the pole mounted or C-clamp ones), but those are ridiculously expensive for reasons unknown to me.

I really didn’t think this would be such a difficult task, but like all apparently simple tasks, it’s turning out tougher than I anticipated, so I implore the ever-knowledgeable Millions. Help?

I wish I could be of help, but have no immediate suggestions.

On another note, as a lifelong guy, I had a very different interpretation of needing to find a “laptop mount”…

Rofl!!!

I hate to be a self-bumper, but I still haven’t been able to turn up anything. Surely someone has had to mount a laptop before.

ok really, do we need to exersice while looking at our computers?

Perhaps not - I don’t, but she’s a law student (I do personal assistant stuff like this for her from time to time) and is studying constantly.

I’ve seen Web pages describing various support structures made of PVC pipe, including a greenhouse. Maybe you could do something in that line, maybe an ‘H’ under the bike with posts that drop in and the desktop resting on the posts. I recall one page that says there are a couple of sizes, maybe 1" and 1-1/4", that slip together almost exactly. For starters, try http://www.makezine.com/blog/archives.html and search for PVC. There are many more sites out there for ideas and technique.

HOoow does she consentrate, I would get motion sick from trying to read and cycle!

I stumbled across this thread on Flickr, which includes a link to a source of parts. This one uses metal pipe instead of PVC, but the same idea.

does it have to be mounted on the bike? What about something like this could you roll that up to the bike so that it would be right in front of her?
