Oh, yeah? Well, where’s YOUR cat picture, bub?
This is last year’s hair cut.
Same cat, six weeks later.

Why do you guys all clip your cats in a lion cut? It looks so ridiculous. I suppose it’s mostly that it’s difficult to get a cat that’s not used to regular grooming to hold still while you’re doing the front end.
My cats don’t have a ton of fur but I have two very-long-haired dogs that I usually keep clipped down to a neat 1/2" of hair. I do it myself with my Andis clippers that have a clip-on guard so it’s all the same length.
Also for regular defurring which prevents mats I recommend the Furminator or equivalent. And if you pull out all the shed and loose hair there’s that much less all over your house.
I am duly chastened. This isn’t my black cat Sal, but it looks a lot like him: http://365pwords.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/black-cat.jpg
I’m not a guy, but I’ll answer anyway. He had gotten so matted it was a necessity. Hopefully, never again. I’m going to start getting him regular grooming appointments. Even with the Furminator, he still forms mats in his “armpits.”
I would love to see pics of your poor pussys post shave. I think it’s one of the cutest things ever.
I feel so bad for laughing but I can’t help it.
There’s more than one way to shave a cat, but there ain’t no way to do it so he likes it.
Just take him to the vet and let him deal with Mr Claws:)
They would look even more ridiculous with a shaved head and tail. Usually the head isn’t matted so that gets to stay and most of the tail gets to stay if it isn’t matted but it does get trimmed (so it’s not a true lion cut). I use a 10 blade because all we have are 10 blades and 40 blades for surgical clipping. We are not groomers so if someone wants their cat knocked out and shaved they are warned that it won’t be pretty but it will be safe and less stressful for the cat so some people prefer to have this done at their vet’s office.
As for looks, the cats rarely go out in public so they don’t have to face a lot of ridicule.
I have two pussies, whose medium-length but very-thick-and-fluffy hair has yet to mat or tangle; I am guessing they keep each other clean with all the licking they do on each other.
Here’s a picture of Keyser after he has been shaved. I get no say in whether it is a lion cut or not.
Fluffy usually ended up with her whiskers, feet fur, and tail-tip left. Everything else was trimmed very close. We had her clipped at the vet’s, and I’m not sure whether they knocked her out or not.
She was an inside-outside kitty. This was over 10 years ago, and since then I’ve changed my ideas about letting cats outside. However, she DID feel embarrassed whether she was inside or outside…for a couple of days. We tried not to comment on her looks right after she got clipped.
Well, if the cat does go outside it can always do what I did as a kid when my mother gave me a bad haircut, wear a scarf.
Oh my God - Thanks! That pic is just priceless. The level of pissed off in his face is dangerously high.
You’re not the only one. In fact I only noticed the difference when you pointed it out.
As for my pussies, they’re all shorthairs, so no shaving for them!
LOL - you’re absolutely right. That tail! Those paws!
Cicero, I hope you lock your bedroom door at night…
I haven’t been able to feed him since 8.30 pm last night so I have 16 pounds of angry feline running around and another hour before I take him to the vet. This will be a long day.
Good luck, Cicero. All I can say is that my pussy is sooooo much happier now that’s he’s been shaved and no longer has those nasty mats pulling on his skin.
Well I took the Blue Persian to get shaved and the Siamese to get her claws clipped. I just hope they don’t mix them up.
Taking two cats to the vet is hell on wheels- both yowling. When the Blue Persian started rattling his cage I was hoping it would hold because if he got out I was in trouble.
Should have them back in a few hours- the house is deadly quiet.
I hope you managed to get a nap in while the cats were gone. Because I think that they’re gonna want blood when they get back.
Probably worse than I thought.
Keyser (Blue Persian) has been shaved and looks horrible. He is wandering around on unsteady legs wailing to go outside. No way.
The Siamese has a few rotten teeth which explains why she has been off her tucker. She goes back on Monday to get them out. In the interim she is on pain killing medication so she can eat.
I bought some worming and fleaing medication and the bill so far is $300.
